LMAO... the boy knows english... He's being difficult to get away from the press... Look at bobby simmons smirk.
Not much to summarize. I think they'll put it up later on njnets.com. Lots of political answers. I found it interesting that Kiki tried to trade for Simmons when he was Nuggets GM and he worked out with Yi predraft and told Yi that if he gets a job then he'll try to get him. Also one of the guys (I don't remember who) said they liked Yi's ability to run the floor and Kiki said he liked his size and shooting. Bobby said he started working out right after season ended to try to get back in shape. Yi pretty much answered every question in mandarin and it sounds like he decided to just leave stuff "lost in translation" as in give 1 political answer and phrase it differently for all the quesitons. (It must have been very frustrating for reporters.) Rod said that all chinese players are obligated to play for the Chinese National team in order for them to play for NBA. Yi said he got the news at like 12 midnight so basically it felt like everything changed overnight for him. Simmons says he tried to stay on the rookies and tell them to work hard and Yi did that. he said if Yi continues to have the same work ethic then he'll be a very good player in this league. Rest of it was pretty boring.

If his english is very bad it will be a big problem and we shouldn't expect much this season. (One more reason to re-up Nenad) I'm hoping he was just playing dumb to avoid answering a ton of questions.

Maybe he taught Yi that trick
it will be his 2nd year in america. I personally thing his english is fine and he's pulling a yao ming in order to get some relief from all the media. He didn't seem to struggle whispering with Simmons. Like the guy above me said. Yao hid his english skills for a good 3 years before someone caught him cursing it up in practice.

The Chinese National team coach does not speak Chinese. When Yi arrived in Milwaukee and went through his first practice without an interpreter his teammates were surprised. He understands everything basketball, and enough "everyday" English to get by. It does hinder his interview skills though.
