(June 26, 2003) - TORONTO -- The Toronto Raptors selected Georgia Tech forward Chris Bosh with the fourth pick in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft on Thursday.

?We are excited to add a young and talented player in Chris Bosh to our team,? said Glen Grunwald, senior vice president and general manager of the Raptors. ?He has much untapped potential, and the desire and work ethic to reach it."

?Not only is Chris a talented player, but he is a fine young man who will be a credit to our organization.?

Bosh, 19, was an early entry candidate for the 2003 NBA Draft after one season at Georgia Tech. He started all 31 games and paced the Yellow Jackets in scoring (15.6), rebounding (9.0), blocked shots (2.2) and field goal percentage (.560). He led the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in field goal percentage, joining Antawn Jamison as the only freshman to record that feat. He also paced the conference with 67 blocked shots and was second in rebounding and eighth in scoring.

Bosh, 6-foot-10, 210 pounds, earned Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year honours. He was also an All-ACC Second Team selection and named to the ACC All-Defensive Team. In his college debut versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Bosh posted season highs with 26 points and 14 rebounds. He had seven games of 20 or more points and scored in double figures in 28 of 31 games. His 13 double-doubles was second in the ACC.

Bosh was named first-team All-America by Parade and Second Team All-America by USA Today following his senior year at Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas. He was named a McDonald?s All-American and Mr. Basketball in the state of Texas. He led Lincoln to a 40-0 record and the state championship.

I am surprised that they didn't trade the pick. Bosh will be a good pro.
