Manny Pacquiao vs. the Golden Boy Oscar DelaHoya! Being that I have a quarter flip in my blood, I got to go with MANNY!!! GO GO GO!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The notion of the fight began in October 2007 merely as a fantasy in the fertile mind of HBO broadcaster Larry Merchant. On Thursday it became reality. After weeks of on and off negotiations, Oscar De La Hoya, boxing's most bankable superstar, and Manny Pacquiao, the pound-for-pound king, jointly announced on a media teleconference that they had agreed to meet Dec. 6 in an HBO PPV fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas which undoubtedly will be the biggest fight of 2008. Manny Pacquiao knocked out WBC lightweight titleholder David Diaz on June 28 in Las Vegas. It is likely to generate more than $100 million and Lee Samuels, spokesman for Pacquiao promoter Top Rank, said within minutes of the official announcement that the telephone lines at its Las Vegas office were flooded with ticket requests, even though tickets have not yet been priced and are not available. The fight will take place at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds, meaning Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs), a five-division champion who holds a 135-pound lightweight belt, will move up two weight classes. De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs), a six-division champion, will come down to 147, a weight he has not fought at since 2001. De La Hoya, primarily a 154-pound junior middleweight in recent years, came down to 150 for his May points victory against Steve Forbes. SOURCE: ESPN BOXING
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya Oscar De La Hoya is alot bigger than Pacquiao, should be an easy match for him..Oscar should be fighting someone of his own weight class and size
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya It seems like everyone of his own weight class are either retiring(Mayweather) or scared to fight him(Hatton,) so he might as well fight someone that will fight him. Plus Pacquiao is a very good fighter in his own right, so it's a fight that is quite compelling to me. I would like to see it, I agree this should be a De La Hoya win. He will be able to keep him at a distance with his jab, and work on his combinations for a KO, but I think Pacquiao can give him a run for his money.
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya That's true but i heard there was someone (good fighter, forgot his name) who agreed to fight him but Oscar didn't go through with it
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya Fascinating. This Pacquiao guy is huge around here (asians/filipinos love him) and from what I've seen hes a fuggin monster going against guys his size. If the weight difference is minimal I'd probably favor Pac, how much does De La Hoya have left in the tank?
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya Dela Hoya is definitely the bigger and stronger opponent. He's moving down to a catch weight of 147 to fight Pacman and thats a weight he hasn't fought at in close to a decade. Pacman is moving up two weight classes. It really depends on how they both prepare for this bout. Pacman needs to put on some size and Dela Hoya needs to drop weight without losing too much strength. Definitely one for the ages.
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya It's almost here!!! Man I can't wait for this match-up!!! Go Pacman!!! Pinoy-Power!!! lol
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya I haven't been excited for a boxing match in some time up until now, I wasn't even this excited for the Hoya/Mayweather fight. This fight has the ingredients to be a classic in my opinion, definately agree with Trench on that one.
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya Pacquiao is schooling Oscar. Fucking amazing.
Re: Pacquiao to move up two weight classes to fight De La Hoya ODLH throws in the towel before the 9th round. Total domination.
