A lifelong Democrat, I’m backing Trump because he can shake up our politics and revive the economy.

    By ANDREW STEIN
    Sept. 21, 2016 6:50 p.m. ET

I have been steeped in the Democratic Party all my life. My father, Jerry, was a New York City Democratic chairman and power broker, and I grew up in and around the Democratic Party. When I was a young man, former senators and Democratic presidential and vice-presidential nominees Herbert Humphrey and Estes Kefauver stayed at my apartment and we would proudly discuss the great traditions of the Democratic Party.

My father was a pallbearer at St. Patrick’s for Bobby Kennedy’s funeral. When I was young, Robert F. Kennedy and John F. Kennedy were (and remain) my political heroes. Four years ago, former New York Gov. and liberal lion Mario Cuomo spoke at my father’s funeral. I think his son, current Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is a very effective leader.

I was elected five times to the New York state Assembly as a Democrat. In 1977, I beatDavid Dinkins and Robert Wagner Jr. in the election for borough president of Manhattan, and then was elected twice as City Council president.

With this background it is very hard for me not to support the Democratic nominee for president this year. But I believe my party has become the party of the elites and moneyed class and has deserted its historic mission as the party of the working class and disadvantaged.

Given my level of discomfort with the current leftist orientation of the Democratic Party, I am now supporting Republican nominee Donald Trump for president. I urge my fellow Democrats to vote for Mr. Trump. I have known him since the early 1970s and have seen his deep concern for people, and how effective he has been while working on behalf of the average citizen.

Donald Trump is no racist. On the contrary, he offers the best hope for rebuilding our inner cities and creating better education and jobs for those trapped in poverty and lacking hope. When a hurricane devastated Puerto Rico in 1984, I asked Mr. Trump to provide a 727 airliner to bring critical supplies to the island. He did so and without publicity. I asked him to rebuild the Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park because the city couldn’t complete it in 10 years. Mr. Trump did it in under six months and under budget.

While he has made some controversial and provocative statements, I strongly believe he will bring needed change and vitality to our nation and shake up our political system, which is in a state of crisis.

Relevant because CNN is happy to show republicans switching to Hiliar, but never reports on Democrats who are principled.

I don't agree with supporting Trump, but I do agree with not supporting the crook.

The reason I want Trump to win is to get power out of the hands of the forces that are basically all in bed together. The US Government is totally corrupt on a level you can't even imagine. Clinton-Bush-Regan-Obama...all the same fucking people. They are in bed with the House of Saud. They operated clandestine CIA assassinations and overthrow governments to push their agenda. We are basically living in a society that is not unlike Red China or Nazi Germany, we are just blind to it because we are fed lies and distortions through government influenced media.

If Trump wins, the Economy will be strategically crashed. There's no way they will let him stay around, I think if he wins the presidency, someone will take him out either through violence or planting a scandal to get him impeached.

Warren probably isn't on "the list" of approved candidates.

What worries the heck out of me if Trump gets elected, is the Fed raising the interest rate to 10% or so as soon as it appears the economy is improving and business start up.
With the debt we now have, that very well may sink us way before we could pay down any debt. Even the Grand master of business can't change this problem.

    Who holds Yellen's strings.

Not saying I want higher interest rates, just the opposite. Higher interest rates will increase unemployment.

However, in the past, higher interest rates also created a high rate of inflation. The result of that cycle was we paid off old govt. debts with cheaper money. But we had a much stronger job market then.

Well the high inflation cause the raising of the rates. But both came only after strong job markets and growth had started the spiral. My point is now, I am not so sure we have room for the option to curb inflation with high interest rates due to the current debt. Compared to today, we had no debt when Carter's inflations was in run away. And I see no way to pay it down or inflate it down in any controlled way.

I should add, in any controlled way except long continuous growth and pay down over a sustained period of time.

You know....im thinking Trump could be the fall guy for the reckless monetary policy of the FED under Obama. They know theres no way out of it so might as well use Trump and his supporters to burden the blame. They will tank everything and blame it on Trump were he to win.

A Trump victory could actually stengthen the power and dependence of the people on the government long term. It will be bad but through disaster the government will enact emergency policies.

A crash will further destroy the middle class and new laws would be enacted to "protect" us.

Maybe you are starting to wise up about the consequences of your 'burn the motherfucker down' thesis.

We are in a no win situation. The corruption will continue either way we go.

Violence and manipulation is the only answer. You have to be willing to do what the US Government does and go further.

    I see that now.

Well, until the robots take over, yes. Humans are subject to corruption, everywhere, probably since the start of the species. You act like this is a sudden new problem for the USA in 2016.

Then you are asking the wrong question.
