Let’s play hypothetical OKC decides to trade George before he hits free agency. Would you trade for a guy that may only be here for half a season? What would a trade look like? I say yes because George is literally everything we’re looking for and if anyone could get him to stay it’s Lillard, and I also think our “culture” fits him.
George getting traded again would just make him want to pick his team on his own terms that much more imo. So sure you take him but only for contracts you want to get out of under. Turner, Leonard and Harkless in that order. Harkless still has value. I would save him for another deal.
Trading for George has always been a risky idea, because so many people just assume he’s LA bound. I honestly believe Portland fits him perfect, but we’d also have to go deep into the playoffs for him to stay imo. It’s a risk of course but I’d sacrifice a non lottery first to find out.
Why would OKC trade an expiring PG for any combination of Turner and Leonard? They don't want those contracts.
Yeah that's not going to happen. OKC won't trade George for bad contracts but I still expect trade ideas like Leonard + Harkless + Vonleh to appear.
They wouldn't. They also wouldn't even consider trading George imo. I was trying to give the OP the benefit of the doubt and play along with the fantasy. If they did (in this fantasy) trade him then we aren't going to have the package that gets the deal done. Even if we did (which again we don't) from our side we couldn't afford to give up much for a player that is 99% going to walk. It would be far different if we had all year to convince him to stay. Having 3 months isn't going to cut it.
In his (admittedly far-fetched) scenario he has a big 4. Pay attention to the fantasy, before posting, man!
Paul George is the missing piece for Stotts system...I just don't see him wanting to be here...I'd be thrilled if they could lure him to Portland but really, it would take at least CJ to get Paul George....not getting him for Meyers and Mo
I would love Paul George. Literally like the player I would want the most out of the whole NBA (ok perhaps besides LeBron) but what good does that do? Let's pretend he does re-sign. We traded CJ for him and now we just have a big 3 still that gets us maybe to WCF (which IS something) but the goal has to be to get to the Championship with a move like that. Don't see it. Then, the more plausible scenario, he leaves. We just traded CJ for cap space. Except it is even worse than that. We don't get cap space for CJ. So no room to sign a free agent. And even if we did then we are looking at another Turner scenario. I know you agree with all I said (most likely) just quoting you but not speaking specifically of you. Speaking (typing) to everyone. I agree Truner, Leonard and Mo aren't getting it done. I said we could only afford to move them though because George is going to walk. Not that I expect OKC to have any interest in them (I don't think they have any interest in any trade for George as it would make them look horrible to future players).
I don't see it that way....2 way player like George is like having Kawai Leonard...George is better at everything CJ is weak at and George can score in bunches...ideally you'd want both CJ and George starting with Dame but we don't have anybody else to trade
There’s no way a half a season of George would cost CJ when the pacers couldn’t even get an offer like that in the summer. Something like Harkless, Davis, and a first sounds about right. Maybe add Swanigan. Remember, in the scenario that George gets put on the block, only playoff teams would pursue him, and there’s only so much those teams could offer.
I would trade CJ for a Paul George on a 3 or 4 year contract easily. We could then go for a decent shooting guard like Fournier or even Courtney Lee and be a better team. However given his contract situation this would be silly move now. Also, CJ would be terrible fit on OKC team led by Westbrook.
I'll play. Maybe we can get Blake Griffin and Paul George without giving one our Big 3. And IT IS a big 3 even though neither one of our big 3 have never played been to an All Star game.
