Upon stepping onto the field Thursday evening against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Atlanta Braves’ A.J. Pierzynski became just the 10th catcher in major league history to appear in 2,000 career games.

With Thursday marking his 2,000th career outing and his 135th as a member of the Braves, the 2016 season has turned into a historic one for the veteran catcher. Back on April 27 against the Boston Red Sox, Pierzynski became the 10th catcher in history to eclipse the 2,000-hit plateau while notching a single to left field.

Currently in the midst of his 18th big league campaign, the 39-year-old entered his 22nd game of the year with a .203 batting average, seven RBI and 15 hits in all.
