The Pirates and infielder David Freese reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension Monday with a club option for 2019.

Freese has had a bounce-back year with the Pirates and has helped the club at first base and third base, where Jung Ho Kang has struggled with inconsistency and injury. Kang was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday.

The deal is worth $6.25 million in 2017, $4.25 million in 2018 and $6 million in 2019 with a $500,000 buyout, according to a source. Freese will turn 34 in April.
