<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Received a lot of feedback today regarding Nate McMillan's comments that he would be hesitant to start rookie Brandon Roy at shooting guard because it would leave him short of options for a backup point guard.

There doesn't appear to be much confidence inside Blazers headquarters that Dan Dickau will be healthy enough to log adequate backup minutes - at least not for the first half of the season. And while rookie Sergio Rodriguez opened some eyes at this summer's World Championships, he is still a project and not ready for nightly NBA action.

The guess here is that the Blazers will make a deal before the season to bring in a veteran point guard who is both content with letting Jarrett Jack start and the type of player who would take on a role of mentoring Jack. This is likely to be a free agent deal, someone they can get for cheap ... perhaps an Anthony Carter or Rick Brunson type. In fact, word is that former Blazer Kenny Anderson has inquired about a chance for a tryout.

Even with a need for a veteran point guard, McMillan said he is pleased with the Blazers' flurry of offseason moves, even though he said it was tough for him to let Steve Blake go to Milwaukee in the Jamaal Magloire trade. The moves, McMillan said, created a more balanced roster compared to last season, when the Blazers had five small forwards and one power forward.

"I think right now what I'm really comfortable with is the balance of the roster,'' McMillan said. "We are not overloaded except for the (power forward) and (center) positions. So guys are going to play and we are going to get a chance to see what we have.''</div>
