I think people are thinking: "we've got to gear up for the playoffs by fixing every roster weakness," instead of "this is a chance for a bargain because everybody's frantically trading"
basically, a backup SG for a backup SG. It's an upgrade at backup SG. Not much of a needle-mover, but added some playoff experience and increased efficiency. Traded free agent uncertainty for free agent uncertainty. No real change there going for Gordon would have likely been more expensive than this deal, but it would have been adding a starter, and a starter that arguably fits well into the Blazer mix while bringing some needed skills. I think adding Gordon would have had a higher ceiling than adding Powell, mainly because of the starting unit upgrade. Maybe a lower floor but I doubt that
44% 3pt shooter, won’t be nearly as easy to double Dame. I like the move and think people will be surprised at how much it improves our team expect to see more small ball
I really like this trade... and frankly, more for its potential in the future than any potential upgrade it might provide this year. Blazers now need to re-sign Powell no matter what, even as overpay. While Powell perhaps doesn't have the boom potential value of Trent on his next contract, he is by far the safer bet and provide a lot more options that include trading CJ, trading a re-signed Powell next year, starting him long term at the 3 (not most desirable IMO). Big fan of this move.
Well, Norman will no longer have to pay Canadian GST, the cost of living in Toronto If Im not mistaken is the highest in North America.
Yeah, but less during April and May than January or February... so recruitment-wise, he is coming at the right time!
* Crabbe was a 44% three point shooter 4 years ago and teams still doubled Dame * Curry was a 45% three point shooter 2 years ago and teams still doubled Dame * Trent was a 42% three point shooter last year and teams still doubled dame * CJ was a 44% three point shooter in the first 12 games of the season and teams were doubling Dame I think the favorite theory around here about 3 point shooting being the way to stop teams from doubling Dame has proven to be false
Powell will Demand the ball from Dame as the PG. He can put the ball on the floor better and drive to the hoop effectively. He wont just find a spot in the corner, we now have someone that can play as much with the ball as Dame or CJ.
