In 2004, a Portland sports columnist made a Blazer pee in a cup. It looks even stranger 14 years later. http://www.wweek.com/sports/2018/01...thletes-for-smoking-pot-what-do-they-say-now/
A lot of the old sportswriter all just that, old. In 20 years, you're going to be talking to a 23 year old who simply won't believe Marijuana was a Schedule 1 Narcotic in 2018. Those old sportswriters just have been programmed that it is evil, even if they know why it was put on Schedule 1 in the first place.
Fuck. People forget that a lot of those classic sports writers wrote until they DIED. Writers like Shirley Policy, Jimmy Cannon , Red Smith.... I am sure Peter Gammons will report after he dies. The Internet's sensibilities starts in the 90's. Reddit should just start a sub called "#ShitOldPeopleDid" and people discuss the possibility of a world they didn't live in. "FAM, dis shit is called a Rotary Phone! It is off the hook! REALLY!" "Tuberculosis.... My Great Grandpa died from this!"
I couldn't care less if a player uses marijuana, EXCEPT that it's still against NBA policies and could lead to a suspension. That said, things may be changing. I have to believe if a stuffy old guy like David Stern is willing to buy off on allowing players to do what is legal in their state, the NBA will eventually take that line. http://www.nba.com/article/2017/10/25/david-stern-medical-marijuana-al-harrington#/
Pretty sure I saw a picture of Jaynes in a really old edition of Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes. Dead ringer for that Humpty Dumpty dude.
That's pretty good. I remember Shirley Povich in his later years. He looked pretty bad too. Yeah. Sports writers aren't known for being photogenic.
