Printers will have to wait for Return to BC Place

VANCOUVER - It's been three years since Casey Printers started a game at B.C. Place Stadium and he'll have to wait a little while longer.

Rookie quarterback Quinton Porter will make his first CFL start for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as they visit the B.C. Lions on Saturday night. Printers, suffering from an ankle injury, will watch from the sidelines as his new club faces the squad he won a Grey Cup and CFL most valuable player honours with in 2004.

"I didn't expect it this season," said Porter, a 25-year-old Boston College product. "Going into it, (a start) was kind of a long-range plan we had. So this is a little faster than I had thought but I'm ready for it."

He better be. The Lions (7-5) are riding a three-game winning streak while the Ticats (2-10) have lost five straight.

B.C. also leads the CFL with 42 sacks. Individually, defensive ends Cameron Wake (15) and Brent Johnson (nine) rank first and second, respectively.

"I can't really prepare for the rush," said Porter. "I'm preparing for who's going to be open downfield and keeping my eyes open downfield. Sometimes, the rush can get to you, which is what we saw the last game we played against B.C."

Porter performed well as he mopped up for the Ticats in a 35-12 loss to B.C. at Ivor Wynne Stadium on Sept. 6, when he completed four of nine passes for 55 yards. He has yet to throw an interception this season while completing 16 of 27 attempts for 244 yards and one touchdown.

"From training camp until now, Quinton has looked good every week," said Ticats coach Marcel Bellefeuille. "Quinton's situation was simply a situation of not ability, but the right timing and getting some meaningful playing time."

Man, Printers has been injured for a lot of big games for the Ti Cats this season.
