I have a pal who believes the whole thing - the secret pedophilia ring, Bill Gates is an evil genius, Chief Justice Roberts is in on it, and now, Jeffrey Epstein is actually alive. I mean, it is bat shit crazy. I sincerely cannot understand how intelligent people can buy into this stuff.

Not that it's an entirely new phenomenon, but it seems like these days, more and more people can't accept reality as it is--they need invented narratives to give reality a purpose and a good vs. evil arc. Without that kind of narrative, they're lost and therefore will go through whatever mental gymnastics necessary to make reality fit despite lack of evidence or even contradictory evidence. In that sense, I agree with the comparison to religion but what's new is the completely secular faith-based belief system. It's unusual (and bizarre) for people to approach the material, tangible, physical world with a completely faith-based system.

I wasn't successful and face a life long sentence of 100% disability as a result. You have no idea of the hell I go through three times a week and occasionally more often such as when I face outpatient surgery to renew my vein and artery used for my dialysis. Yeah, I'm awake for that nightmare. And then there's the actual dialysis which means that my butt is suffering through hell while lying on my back in a dialysis chair with no way to shift position for four hours. Yeah, hurts bad enough that I dread the next treatment. On the plus side, I got to go while Trump didn't so I spared Trump his life full of torment. Imagine how I feel about that.

I believe some of the pedophilia stuff to a degree. With the amount of human trafficking being uncovered and the amount of depravity and power among certain elites it not a far stretch. Of course it’s not fair to assume every person in power is complicit in some organized conspiracy, but when you look at someone like Epstein, the people he hung around with and the fact he got away with what he was doing for so long, it’s not a far stretch to think there are a lot of people out there getting away with a lot of shit. I hate to point the finger just at “elites”, but I imagine humans aren’t cheap. Gotta jump through a few hoops to obtain them, it ain’t exactly a blue collar hobby.
