In the late ‘60s and ‘70s the dreadful Yankees were known as “The Horace Clarke Yankees”,
the perennial diminutive 2B who was known for breaking up 3 potential no-hitters in the 9th inning.
He lacked power......just 27 career HRs, but he was a wizard in the field and could he run the
bases. His 10 year tenure came after the great Mantle/Whitey Ford era. He succeeded Bobby
Richardson.....no small feat.....Unfortunately, Clarke’s tenure came at a low point in Yankee
team history......known as ’the terrible years’. I will remember that his playing efforts, learned
in the Virgin Islands, did not go unnoticed. Sir, R.I.P.

Clarke and Roy White were two fine players who entered the Yankkees during the CBS Years. White being a bit younger managed to get in on a couple championships. During most of their playing time I was overseas and games were hard to folow. FEN and the Stars & Stripes coul be a bit late on game reporting. In the case of Mr. Clarke I too will add my condolances. RIP Sir you were a fine example to your team mates and the game itself.
