Donald Cerrone earned his eighth straight victory this weekend by defeating replacement opponent John Makdessi. Cerrone broke Makdessi's jaw late in the second round forcing the Canadian to verbally submit. After the fight it was announced that Cerrone would get the first crack at new lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, presumably a a yet-unannounced event in Denver, Colorado, later this year. Cerrone and dos Anjos have fought once before with dos Anjos taking a unanimous decision victory over Cerrone in Indianapolis in 2013. Cerrone was set to face undefeated Sambo expert Khabib Nurmagomedov this weekend but an injury forced teh Russian to withdraw. Nurmagomedov holds a victory over Rafael dos Anjos but will have to wait his turn.
Michael Johnson said no when the UFC called him to fill in for Khabib Nurmagomedov this past weekend. Now he wishes he'd taken the fight and would still like to face Cerrone. Were I Cerrone I would tell MJ to sit and spin. Cerrone doesn't take convenient fights and never withdraws.
RDA needs to fight before December unless he's injured and Cerrone shouldn't take a fight in between.
