first period rangers defense bad skjei looked like shit especially on the lone jet goal. Rangers being physically manhandles out there. Kakko needs to be on the first PP instead of buch.

Panarin scores and then we get the first 'Rangers special' 20 seconds later. Way too much space from DA.

Next Ranger goal pull Hank. Should’ve bought him out. Thank goodness he’s almost done here. It’s unfortunate that we weren’t able to win a Cup for him but he is now an albatross on this franchise with that ridiculous contract Sather gave him. He should be the backup at this point.

Seriously, do they know they have to play after scoring a goal?

Definitely not seeing any sort of defensive improvements by this team from last year even with these new signings. Jesus. I would expect them to have at least focused on defense and been better in game 1 than this. Sheesh.

Offensively this team can be dangerous. Defensively lets hope they're better than what they showed tonight. Always nice to win on opening night.

Good to see HL get #450. Hopefully there's enough in the tank to get to 500 over 2 more seasons.

Getting to third all time would be an incredible accomplishment. Like you said. Hopefully, he can get there.

I give credit to Staal for making a smart play when he realized no one was challenging him so he took it to the net but then he handed a goal back letting Wheeler cruise by for an easy goal. Definitely need to work on the breakout but offensively this team is ridiculous, Kakko playing like a seasoned vet and Panarin/Trouba playing to expectations. I think they are going to have trouble with more physical teams with the undersized defense and I agree with you 71 Skjei looked lost out there. Hank needs to cover a few pucks, too many rebounds but at least this year there is offense.

On a separate note how the heck are the Rangers off for 6 days after Saturday?

Always good to start the season with a win. Offense will be there. Defense needs to be a lot better and much more physical

The defenseman were not good. Hank kept the team in this one.

Agree, the schedule makers are moronic. 6 days off after Satuday. Dumbasses.

At least Quinn learned from his stupid mistake. You don't play two rookies together in Fox and Hajek. When he put Hajek with Trouba and Fox with Skjei, both looked much better.

One thing I love with our young players is their ability to constantly go to the net, battle in front and pay the price to score dirty goals. At one point it was only Kreider that did that here. Now you see Howden, Lemieux and Andersson do it consistently. That is why Chytil has to learn how to do. Kakko does this as well from time to time.

Brady skjei is 6’3” and 214lbs he should be rocking people out there and being a lot more aggressive. He looked slow to me and maybe not quite in the shape he needs to be in. Trouba was good and the puck seems glued to panarin’s stick. Kreids looked good and as fast as ever out there. This offense like others have mentioned will be fun to watch!!
