Hester will demand daily updates. Brandon Lloyd will dazzle. But the glue of the Bears new (and improved?) receiving corps might be Davis, whose knowledge and comfort in Turner's system makes him a more confident receiver. Of more importance is that it often makes him open in the critical intermediate nooks in the secondary where Muhsin Muhammad typically operated. Muhammad's gone, and don't be surprised if Davis emerges as a competent, dependable slot receiver who is a de facto starter and benefits from all the attention defenses pay Hester.</div> Lots of other stuff in this article, which is basically an overview of the questions we need to answer in camp, but I just needed to quote this ludicrous passage in which it's said that Brandon Lloyd "will dazzle".
on the 2nd one, Im guessing it wasnt intended for him....he likely was running a drag and there was supposed to be a TE curling in behind him....if this is true, as I suspect, he actually did the right thing, and something that very few WRs have the discipline to do: let a pass intended elsewhere pass him....
I dunno, it really looks like Rattay is throwing it right at his helmet. Looks too close to be for a TE out of position.
either way, he didnt think it was for him....its not like he aligator-armed it, he didnt try to catch it at all....
There's no mistaking the ball is intended for Lloyd there. Watch the QB. The ball isn't tipped or the QBs arm hit or anything. Lloyd might not have thought the ball was for him, but it was.
upon further study, the play was FUBAR from the begining...as he makes his in cut, you can see hes startled by the player running right by him....he does actually accelerate to full speed until he clears him....then he doesnt expect the ball....if that pass was to him, at that distance, that QB sucks an egg, becauset hat ball was right at this facemask while hes dragging across the field....even if he catches it, it screws with his stride and dooms the YAC....
The pass was pretty inaccurate from that range, granted. But he still had no reason to duck it, even if it does screw up potential YAC. That leaves yards off the field, he catches it, and he can still probably gather a few YAC anyway. Not sure how you can say he looks surprised either, you don't see enough of the play to determine one way or another.
he didnt duck it because of his YAC, he ducked it because he didnt think it was to him....and when recievers try to catch balls that arent to them, the usual result is a tipped ball, and a tipped ball where he was on an NFL field is going the other way....I think he showed great discipline to not reach for a ball he didnt think was for him, even if he should have thought it was his....for all we know, there was supposed to me another WR crossing behind him....we cant know what was called....

The body of evidence for that is quite a bit bigger than those two clips.
With the WR corps had, the 49ers should've been throwing to Vernon and handing to Frank... just like the phins this year... 98% of the offense will be Ricky & Ronnie.
