Why the fuck did monroe choose the bucks over us? Why do people choose shit organization over us constantly? Is portland really that boring or is paul allen a dick?
The bucks will be in the playoffs next year based on the stats and numbers of the east. If they play well, they will contend for the conference in my opinion. Besides, LMA probably told Monroe to not waste his time, he was leaving regardless.
Without Aldridge on the team, the Bucks became the better choice. It might have been true even if LMA had stayed.
The bucks have a good young team, and have an easier road to get deep into the playoffs than Portland did with or without lma. From a talent standpoint with lma, Wes and batum back we would be better, but that doesbt necessarily mean we would have been able to get deeper into the playoffs
Yeah. The inability of the Blazers to draw free agents puts a furrow in our collective brow. Even the Portland Timbers have trouble getting football players to come here. I think players like to be "seen" both in the media and at the clubs. Portland is a very discreet town. Celebrities own residences here when they want to "chill out." That relaxed mentality may carry a stigma with potential free agents... IDK, I am just guessing.
In threads about Monroe over the last couple of years, half of the posters here bitterly opposed getting him. They said sarcastically that he is bad at defense, etc. I was one of less than a handful who wanted him from the beginning. Only this summer did his advocates rise to a majority. But Olshey simply wanted to gut the team, like the Sterling Clippers where he cut his teeth, so I don't think the massive opposition here to Monroe was the reason for Olshey neglecting him.
Tell that to Channing Frye. Or Robin Lopez. Meanwhile Utah is building a better team than Milwaukee OR Portland, and what's the appeal of SLC to "pro athletes"?
How do you fool when you offer as max? You think NO would actually do that if he didn't want him? What if Monroe said yes then? Unless I just fell for you and not NO!... crap...
Neither stuck around particularly long nor was all that sad to leave. Players usually say the right thing when they arrive, but even the goofiest two examples you could come up with were short-lived matches. Portland of the last 10-15 years isn't very appealing, and not surprisingly, you have to go back a ways to the Buck Williams / Brian Grant / Chris Dudley types to find guys who genuinely liked what the region had to offer, beyond just paying it lip service. I'll leave that to the people who know SLC...
The Greatest European Player of All Time played his entire NBA career in Portland, so it clearly has some appeal. Maybe we should be targeting Euro players a bit more, and a bit more effectively. Both Utah and Milwaukee have found young cornerstones that way.
