LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Anton Yelchin, a rising actor best known for playing Chekov in the new "Star Trek" films, was killed by his own car as it rolled down his driveway early Sunday, police and his publicist said. The car pinned Yelchin, 27, against a brick mailbox pillar and a security fence at his home in Los Angeles, Officer Jenny Hosier said. He had gotten out of the vehicle momentarily, but police did not say why he was behind it when it started rolling. Yelchin was on his way to meet friends for a rehearsal, Hosier said. When he didn't show up, the group came to his home and found him dead. https://www.yahoo.com/movies/star-trek-actor-anton-yelchin-dies-car-crash-175216196.html
I thought he was perfectly cast as Chekov. In many ways I thought of him as an upgrade over Walter Koenig. He was certainly one of my favorites of the new movie Star Trek cast. RIP
Super sad. Good actor. Been in a lot of things, and thought he had the potential for real long-term staying power. I'm a big fan. A good one gone far too soon.
Ever since Google started giving cars intelligence, they've been getting meaner and meaner. Expect many more of these incidents. barfo
Normally I don't really want the gory details, but in this case I'm really curious how the hell this happened.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee he was driving had been recalled earlier this year in April for transmissions problems...it is thought the gear slipped from park to neutral and the Jeep rolled backwards pinning and suffocating him...a freak fucking accident....a certain car company is getting sued... but that can't bring back Anton Yelchin...damn
You kid (that's sort of your MO), but if you don't want to be completely freaked out, don't read "Robopocalypse". Doesn't help that it's written by an actual robotics expert.
Oh man.... that sucks..... but that's also why I would never just put my car in park on a hill. I always engage the E brake.
If this was Brad Pitt it would finally open eyes to the stupidity of many modern cars. One of the main things I like about my wife's 2015 Focus is that it still has a real key, that you can't remove while the car is running or in gear. I work on cars every day that I can leave running and walk away from. Some of them beep a warning at you, big whoop. A guy I work with got in one of these electronic key cars and it started even though the key was on the outside of the windshield. He drove it to the dealership and the key was gone. I think a new key was about 500 bucks. I hate electronic keys and I hate electronic video game type gear shifters. Some of them are rotary dial. How is that better? Everything is electric, even the parking brake on many new cars. You would think they could program the electronics so if the car senses it is rolling back without running it would stop, but that would be too easy.
Loved him in Odd Thomas. I also remember him really well from Alpha Dog. He had a very bright future ahead of him.
Cars, the technology of peace. Suuure......and Obama just keeps supporting cars. Vote for Trump and make America horses again.
