So as the season unfolds and assuming Josh Howard comes back in December and looks OK enough ... how does everyone feel about Deng for Hinrich and Josh Howard ?

The title alone is worth the idea.

How has the cap'n been playing?

Well I must admit I thought it was a cool thread title and I just wanted to get it out there

    BUT:

There are several methods in the madness

    1. Josh Howard is cheaper and better value in his production if he's healthy
    2. James Johnson gets more opportunity where ultimately if he becomes what I think he can - he'll eventually be a better player than Deng and Howard
    3. It suits us financially , if say , we were able to cash Taj and picks in for OJ Mayo who will want to get paid when the Cap'n is expiring and could be resigned as a cheap 3rd /4th guard option
    4. Would Mom Dad and the Kids love it !

    Anyway...after 2 seasons

    Noah
    Boozer
    Johnson
    Mayo
    Rose

    bench
    Asik
Vet Role Big - circa mid MLE
    Korver
    Brewer
    Hinrich - circa mid MLE

    Scrub 1
    Scrub 2

Not sure what you see in JJ. He looks like Tyrus's little brother to me. I just don't see him getting it all together. And as great as Hinrich would be as the backup PG, I think it is too early to give up on Watson. He's showed a couple of flashes of getting it, and if nothing else is working, he can always get himself a shot. Plus there is nothing redeeming about Howard.

I don't want any part of Hinrich back in Chicago. The last thing we need is a guy who's likely to take the ball out of Rose's hands, and missing shots when we have a lead.

We've turned the page from the Hinrich Era here, it's time to move on.

I'll second this notion. To me JJ looks like a talented guy who just does not have a good feel for the game. How often does that typically get better, especially when a player is 24 years old?

I think the idea that JJ could be better than Deng is off base. Deng was the best player on one of the best teams in the country his freshman year at Duke. JJ underachieved for four years at Wake Forest. As a 19 year old rookie he was one of the 3 best players on a playoff team. JJ can't get off the bench.

Deng and JJ are not that far apart in age and the difference between the two is quite large IMO.

I said it in another thread, but the main difference I see between Tyrus and JJ is that the latter seems willing to learn and the former was routinely kind of a moody asswipe who never seemed eager to learn anything from everyone.

But yeah, I have to admit that after a nice flourish at the beginning, JJ hasn't exactly played big, has he?

I think wat JJ has goin for him is his willingness to learn. He knows he has to get his head on straight and let the game come to him, which Ive seen from him in the few amounts hes been playing. I think he has potential to be a good player, he just has to be patience and play smart. Thank god Pip is mentoring him (hopefully still)

JJ needs minutes - and there's one of two ways he gets it

    1. On a team like ours that's gunning for deep post season and that's committed to lettting him play through his mistakes in at least 18 minutes per game

    2. Or a shithead team that has no choice but to play him 30 + minutes per game.

On option #1 ....I believe JJ in New Orleans would be something else . Utah too.

On option #2 I think he could have a bright future in New Jersey, Washington ...probably Washington actually...I think Flip would be a good fit for the kid although he does seem to respond to structure and doesn't brace against it and may well end upa fit for Avery Johnson in Jersey. Having two ball handlers like Johnson and Williams at the 3 is a pretty nice luxury.

If Jersey are patient , they are probably going to have the best assemby of young talent in the league as they begin to mature when they head to Brooklyn

    FWIW,

Tyrus is averaging about 12/6 in 20 minutes this season.

Also , I'll be clear - I'm pro Lu. I think he's a helluva player and he is probably the most maligned player on the Bulls.

For the last 2 seasons everyone has bitched about Lu's efficiency with the "long 2" his calling card and he has never been the darling of the TS% set.

And they all bemoaned...if only Lu could develop a 3 point shot we accept the fact that he will never lift his head and look and create when he puts it down and decides to drive

Well hey he's done that and he still gets whipped.

Lu is not a superstar but he may be the ultimate system player

    Ok...on the flipside

    1. When healthy , I think Josh Howard is generally the equal of Lu ( maybe not as good a rebounder but a more canny scorer ) and if Joshn Howard is fit and healthy and comes at one third the cost it at least makes you wonder

    2. Cap'n has this year and next and provides us with a proven defender and ball handler as the ideal 3rd guard and slots in to long term salary structure planning

    3. And yes ...I think if he can slow down and play within the structure of the team I believe James Johnson just on raw talent projects better than Lu and Josh

And moving Deng and Taj ...both of whom have value ....could open it up for Omer and JJ who I think are game changer / better upside players but still having Mayo come into the mix with Hinrich /Brewer the support guards behind Rose/Mayo.

    Korver the specialist

Howard / Johnson at the 3 with Johnson also getting minutes across the other forward spot

    Yep.

I was always of the belief that the key to Tyrus's salvation was to pair him with Chris Paul in New Orleans

Makes sense. He's back to where he came from , league's best point guard . He rescued Tyson and Tyrus has teh same type of impact but is the more skilled player.

TT in New Orleans could / would be a game changing impact player

    Imagine

    Okafor
    West
    Ariza
    Bellinelli
    Paul

    Smith
    Thomas
    Thornton/Green
    Bayless

    Chandler's playing for Charlotte.

He's really high energy. When he comes in and the opponents are really tired, he excels.

Heh, you're both wrong... He's off to Dallas and a stint with me in fantasy league. Still the same old Tyson, but JKidd is working wonders on him

When is the last time Josh Howard has been healthy? I think Dallas wouldn't have dealt him if they thought he'd be his normal self as a player anytime soon.

The discussion got a little sidetracked around Tyrus after Denny brought up how he's doing on a shit team like Charlotte

I was simply saying that Tyrus could be resurrected under Chris Paul in New Orleans for the reasons I mentioned

    That's all

The other reason this won't happen is Howard is the kind of anti-character guy that the bulls would never acquire if there is any way to avoid it.
