The Cardinals are expected to place second baseman Skip Schumaker and outfielder Allen Craig on the disabled list today after both suffered injuries during the team's four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Schumaker suffered what club officials have described as a hyperextended elbow Friday night; Craig sustained a left groin strain while stealing a base with the Cardinals leading 6-1 Saturday. Schumaker said he was hurt in his next-to-last at-bat -- a fifth-inning strikeout -- during a 11-2 win. He admitted Sunday that the condition affected his throwing but was somewhat encouraged by a decrease in pain. Craig slammed a three-run home run among three hits in the same game he was injured. Manager Tony La Russa lifted him during an eighth-inning double-switch but said nothing about an injury motivating the move until his weekly Sunday morning call-in show with radio rightsholder KMOX.
