I wonder when he said that? I guess he has been playing well out at the PF. I don't think there will be any playing time for him, especially if Nate is trying to cut the rotation down to 8 or 9 guys like he said he wants to.
I like sergio, but he took a huge step back last season and I'm hoping he can turn things around this year. He needs to show that he improved his shot and he needs to play some better defense.
Nothing wrong with those comments, and besides, he's right. He'd be much better off playing for D'Antoni, too bad his trade value is the worst it's ever been. I don't think he can even be sent to the NBDL anymore.
I think he's right. The Blazers at some point are gonna want to "consolidate talent" somehow, because they've just got way too many guys that ought to play at some point. And yet, where do you trade those guys, and what for?
Sergio may indeed need a change in scenery as I don't see him getting much playing time here. I think he can be an excellent point guard in the league. I hope he does well
Sergio hasn't shown me much in the half-court, which is how the Blazers play most often. Sergio running the offense usually consists of waiting around the 3-point line for a pick. The only problem is, that doesn't work, because the defenders give Sergio the outside shot if he wants it. So they double-team the guy setting the pick, negating the effect. If the Blazers speed things up a bit, or if Sergio really improves that outside shot, he might find a way into the rotation. But it certainly doesn't appear to be a big possibility.
I hope they do find another team for him. He doesn't fit well with this team and I doubt he ever will. He would look good in NYC, except they would roast him alive.
I think he'd fit well in Cleveland, if they hadn't addressed their point guard spot. They don't really need a play-maker in the half-court, as James takes that role, but if they played a faster tempo, Rodriguez could be quite good leading such an attack.
I'm glad Sergio isn't content with his situation in Portland ... now go out there and TAKE your minutes! Don't be passive, don't pout, recognize the flaws in your game and work your ass off correcting them and make yourself more than a one-trick pony (D up, or learn to shoot). Personally I'd love to see Sergio succeed in fixing the holes in his game, and watch him compete his arse off this season fending off the charge he's going to get from Jerryd since I think he's got some of the sweetest passing skills I've ever seen, but more than anything I think the competition is going to drive everyone to play to the limits of their ability. I say may the best man win.
If this is part of the same quote I heard about, Sergio was just stating the obvious. He started with how he loved the city, the fans, management and players and that he will do whatever the coach asks. But if wasn't going to get any playing time, it might be best to try with another team. I think both Sergio and management know where each stand. I don't think Sergio has much trade value (maybe as a throwin to make contracts work). But if not traded it is literally a make or break year . . . meaning he leaves as a restricted free agent. (Same with Webster?) And he will only have a few chances here and there to prove himself.
I think the Knicks would be the best possible location for Sergio. The Knights, or Phoenix depending on whether they actually want to keep their run-n-gun offense.
He is young and I still think he could become a good backup PG- even for Portland. A second unit of Sergio, Rudy, Outlaw, Fry and maybe Godzilla could be pretty exciting.
The Spurs just signed Salim today. They were thinking the same thing you were. Just not the same type of PG. -Petey
