I say absolutely he should. I think he's gone if we blow this.

    Yes.

For the sake of change. 6 yrs is a long time to listen to the same voice over and over again.

He isn't Pop/Carlisle/Spo who transcend their coaching positions. They create culture. Terry isn't that.

Terry has a lot of good qualities and is a great guy.

If the goal is to make it to the playoffs & get eliminated in the 1 or 2 round, Terry is your guy. He's a "Good" coach.

He's not one who will ever win a championship though. He lets his players play too undisciplined to be an "Elite" level coach.

    A. The Blazers are going to win this series so this whole thread is moot.

    B. Someone please name the "Elite" coach that the Blazers are going to be able to sign if they fire Terry.

I would argue that Stott's has created a good culture here in Portland. However, its not championship quality.

I also think Carlisle is one of the most over-rated coaches there is. Stott's is very similar to Carlisle in a lot of ways.

I don't think he was handed much talent to be honest and got us to the #3 seed in the tough West. Props to him for this season. Name a better replacement.

    Me.

I would read the forum during games for play suggestions.

There's a real argument to say that injuries played a part in that. Sure, the 13 game win streak helped, but I would need to look at who was injured during those games + other west' teams being injured.

LeBron James as de-facto player coach, with David Vanterpool as the on-bench coach.

Baldwin would play 48 minutes a game.

Totally agree. That has been my position. The other teams losing key players most definitely helped us. I was just saying that he lead us to what, 8 more victories than I expected us to get, so I'm proud of him and the guys.

When people say "name a replacement," I immediately think Jay Wright. Of course, he is universally understood to be THE college coach who is going to get all the attention this offseason from multiple franchises.

That said, which NBA team with a coaching opening is a better situation that what Portland would be were they to fire Stotts?

I'm just not in love with the Blazers being a college coach's first NBA gig. Something about PJ Carlesimo soured me on that idea.

It's a funny argument, because on one hand you say "ehn, those injuries probably only netted us one or two extra wins" and then on the other hand, being 47-35 has the lowest-seeded of a three-way tie with Minnesota and San Antonio (we had a worse NW division record than Minnesota), putting us 8th seed at best. So yeah, we capitalized, but we might not be better than the Pelicans ('when in doubt, have the best player on the court" is a good strategy for them).

PJ was better than we give him credit for. He was too good a coach to allow the team to properly tank after the Drexler trade. Made the playoffs every year as Blazer coach despite a middling roster.

100%, and if he wants Stotts, he'll get what he wants... so strap in for good times short seasons.

Nah, improve the roster then let’s talk if he continues to disappoint.

I think i said 40 or 41 wins and battling for the 8th seed. And I think those injuries gave us more than 1 or 2 more wins, but yes, interesting how it all worked it's way out.
