Should the Portland Trail Blazers try to swing a deal for Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyreke Evans?

If the Portland Trail Blazers really are buyers ahead of the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline, should they take a look at Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyreke Evans?

Evans, 28, is having a great season, with career-high averages of 19.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal per game.

He's on a $3.3 million, one-season deal with Memphis, which is mired in mediocrity and looking to make changes.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst already has said Evans "definitely gets traded."

"Tyreke Evans definitely gets traded, even if it's for a second-round pick," said Windhorst in an episode of The HoopsHype Podcast with Alex Kennedy. "Memphis probably holds out until the very end, to make sure that somebody isn't ready to offer [something more]."
    From The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor:

The Grizzlies want a first-round pick for Evans, who is averaging 19.4 points in his healthiest season in three years. Evans would be a wonderful addition to any team that needs a spark-plug scorer who can also shoulder playmaking responsibilities--a team like the Sixers, Pelicans, or Celtics. The asking price might be a bit steep for most teams; Evans is an expiring contract, which would make surrendering a first-rounder a tough pill to swallow.
To be fair, every team wants a first-round pick in a deal. And while we won't know until around March where the Blazers will land, based on right now, Portland's first-round pick would be somewhere from 13th to 20th.

So, what do you think? Should the Trail Blazers try to make a deal for Evans?

Regardless we would not have his bird rights after this season..correct? So sure I would trade someone like Noah for him....if they have no intentions of keeping Noah. But not our 1st

Im not sure Id give 1st round pick for him, although, if we want to "win now", we need ready players, not drafted ones... so whether its Tyreke Evans or somebody else, that 1st round pick is likely to be gone

What do you think the Blazers should be offering for a guy they won't be able to re-sign?

    My thoughts exactly.

Vonleh would be fair. I don't see us keeping him beyond this year. His RFA status makes him worth more to the Grizz than Evans is.

If you have to give up a first round pick for a rental on Evans, count me out. The salary cap value of rookies on their first contract is critical these days to avoid luxury tax penalties.

Tyreke Evans. Because he's on a 1-year deal, the Blazers won't have his bird rights this summer. Meaning that if they want to keep him, they'll have no more than the taxpayer MLE, or about 5.5M to offer him. He'll almost undoubtedly command more than that, meaning that even if they trade for him now, there is virtually zero chance of Portland keeping him beyond this summer.

His shot is so improved. He'll get 8 figures easily in the open market as a FA, so in essence, he'll prolly be a rental.

No way I give up a pick for that, especially if I don't unload some contracts in the process.

Yeah but we wouldn’t be able to keep Evans either. Vonleh is worth more to me than a 30 game rental or whatever.

I’d rather hold onto that and use it before free agency.

I see no real trade possible without adding a bunch of players on both sides.

    FWIW.

Neither team has cap space so the deal has to be balanced. Evans's one year deal is just ~$3M, so we'd have to do something like Vonleh for him. I wouldn't do that if I were Memphis.

EDIT: the TPE would work, and it can be split. There is a decent opportunity here after all, especially if we're willing to facilitate the deal by taking some salary dump.

Re-signing him would be the key consideration if we give up much more than the TPE though.

Seems easy. they take the tpe and a future 2nd or 2 and some cold, hard cash. Or they take Noah. Or they see who will give them a 1st

I would love Evans on our team. Is there absolutely no way at all that we could move money and players around to re-sign him?
