https://www.yahoo.com/sports/nba-rumors-former-warrior-patrick-224432060.html Weird situation, but it looks like the Cavs will be waiving Patrick McCaw only 1 week after signing him. Speculation is that this was a pre-planned agreement to get him out from the Warriors control. Not sure of the financial/cap situation, but he would be a great free agent pick-up.
We don't have an open roster spot and don't have enough money to claim him off waivers so if another team claims him discussing it might be a moot point.
He got 50+ minutes of game time with the Cavs and posted a NEGATIVE PER. He was atrocious, even compared to the other players on the Cavs. There are better fish in the sea to try and snag.
First off, this was on the Cavs. I don't believe many guys on that team have a positive PER. And as the article stated, this may have been a pre-planned arrangement with the Cavs to spite the Warriors to get him out of their control. I don't think he was motivated to play for them.
Blazers have a trade exception so they could *theoretically* claim him. I actually like him as a player, just don’t really see the fit with Portland. There will be better players available on the buyout market later on.
Yeah, I guess I just connected the dots that we weren't going to cut a guaranteed salary and then add salary that costs even more because we're in the tax already.
Not for mccaw at least. But it’s definitely something to consider later in the season once vets start getting buyouts. Wes Matthews could be one.
That's why I'm a big fan of some sort of two for one trade, even if it doesn't seem like anything too useful at the time.
The players on the Cavs are not great, but McCaw was by far worse. On the Cavs the player with the closest PER value is Andrew Harrison with a +6.9 An 'average' PER is 15. I have never seen a negative PER before. Several players frequently post single digit PER... but never a negative number. (Granted, I don’t put much stock in the PER metric, but it does show some semblance of player value).
How about double digits, all-time? http://bkref.com/tiny/PpWr9 Why does the boldfacer guy dislike Blazers?
I sit corrected. According to the CBA FAQ page a team with a trade exception sufficient to cover the salary can claim a player off waivers. That said, I don’t really see why the Blazers would be interested.
