Almost every day for the last couple of weeks I've been having trouble sleeping. I am able to fall asleep with a little trouble but the main problem is waking up in the middle of the night. I always seem to wake up anxious and can't go back to sleep for hours. I seem to hear every little sound, even my own pulse bothers me and keeps me up. Anything that's helped you out when you can't sleep? maybe eat or drink something?

I occasionally have a hard time initially falling asleep and Valerian Root has helped. It takes about 30 minutes to kick in, but it has definitely helped me relax enough to go to sleep. Give it a try, it's like $4-5 at any virtually any store.

A Glass or two of red wine always helps me sleep, also.

Funny this should come up, because I just came across something that has worked really well for me. Here is a link to the full article, but the quote kinda sums it up http://dilbert.com/blog/entry/sleep_tip/

Actually, sleep with one eye open. Grip your pillow tight. Turn off the lights, and the night, she enters! If you need to, take someones hand, as you're off to never never land!

Nobody wants to hear about your time in prison. We all know that your cell mate was a tranny btw, so you can't get away with calling him "she".

Interesting. I'm going to give this a try the next time I can't sleep.

I'm a life long insomniac. I have the same problem in that I get to sleep easily enough, but wake at 1-3AM and struggle from there. Two things that help me are either going to the couch where I can set up at a good angle and due to it being a couch don't move around much, or, listen to sports radio. It takes my mind off everything.

Thanks guys I'm definitely gonna try some of these out. I know that there's pills and medications that help but honestly dont want to rely on them. I really like that article Sug much appreciated and gives me hope for tonight!

Have your blood pressure checked ASAP. It's a leading cause of anxiety/sleep loss.

I don't believe in using any pharmaceuticals and/or unnatural products, so I recommend using the Magic-Flight Launch Box to take a few draws of vaporized cannabis...pure medical vapors...no carcinogenic smoke! Works like a charm and without any ill side effects.

regular exercise at least 4 times a week with your heart rate elevated to the 115-130 range for at least 45 minutes. Eat healthy & drink lots of water. I'm sure you know/have heard of all this sort of stuff but it really helps a body function correctly in so many ways... embrace it for your self and loved ones

Don't drink anything for 3 hours before you go to sleep. You'll wake up thirsty but not in the middle of the night.

Stop worrying, be happy. You're having bad dreams.

Post on this board at night. Talk to all these bores. Better than melatonin.

I used to have problems falling asleep so I know of a couple of mind games that help me fall asleep. Try them out, they might work for you.

    - It sounds stupid, but counting inside my head really does help me fall asleep. It slows my mind down and stops it running at a million miles an hour.
    - Try and relive a good moment in your life. Think of every detail, you'll be passed out before you know it.
    - Listen to Pink Floyd - The Wall. That shit is like Ambien in audio form.
    - If all else fails, self-medicate!

So last night i was able to fall asleep easily at around 1130 which is great since I haven't been able to fall asleep that early for a while. I used the Sugs suggestion and it worked like a charm. Thanks once again! The problem is i woke up at around 5 and couldn't fall back asleep until after 7. I could get myself to not think of anything but it seemed like i always would feel a boost of energy right before falling asleep. Fortunately I didn't have to work today but I'm worried about how it'll affect me tomorrow. Maybe i should keep a baseball bat at the side of my bed and knock myself out :dunno:

I used to have similliar sleep issues. I now take Trazodone before I go to bed and sleep good for 7 hours. I rarely wake up in the middle of the night anymore, and when I do it only takes about 10 minutes before I fall back asleep.
