it should always be called football, I only say soccer with americans since if you say football to them they immediately think about NFL or college football. To this day I cannot understand how you can call a sport football when 95% of the time you carry it and throw it.
As do I, since my family is from Germany. The point of the article though was show that the term was created in England. Most people seem to think that Americans created that to differentiate it from American football. Rugby football, Association football, Gridiron football, Australian rules football .. etc, etc. :|
football is the football we're watching right now during the world cup, any other form is not football but rugby or some other variation of it. (therefore doesn't deserve to be called football)
