Sooners' Griffin wins Oscar Robertson Trophy

The first of the major college basketball awards was announced Monday, and Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin better get used to hearing his name called.

Griffin was a unanimous choice to win the Oscar Robertson Trophy, presented by the United States Basketball Writers Association.

He led the Sooners to the South Regional championship game where they lost to North Carolina on Sunday. Griffin led Oklahoma in scoring at 22.7 points and leads the nation in rebounding at 14.4.

In four NCAA Tournament games, Griffin averaged 28.3 points and 15 rebounds.

Oklahoma athletes now have pulled off the rare sweep, after quarterback Sam Bradford won the Heisman Trophy.

It’s happened only one other time. In 1967, UCLA quarterback Gary Beban won the Heisman and Lew Alcindor was named USBWA national player of the year.
