Rangers: Boatload of hitting prospects that San Diego so desperately needs. Texas needs a good pitcher any way they can get one.

Cardinals: Carpenter's in rough shape, Mulder's career is likely finished, they need a big time pitcher to complement Lohse and Wainwright. Plenty of prospects as well.

Dodgers: If the Padres abandon the whole division thing, L.A. might have enough pieces to grab him. Peavy would be a better option than signing CC and watching him pitch .500 ball next year.

Red Sox: Chest-deep in prospects, plus Theo and Kevin Towers have a good relationship and have struck plenty of deals in the recent past.

Yankees: Not as deep in prospects as the other teams mentioned, but they'll chase Peavy tirelessly.

Indians: They have all but one of the pieces that they went to the ALCS with in 2007. Peavy and Cliff Lee could be a great combination next year, with the bats coming back healthy. They have the prospect pool to make it happen.

Peavy to the Dodgers is not going to happen.

He'll end up in Houston with his best friend Oswalt, or Atlanta. He wants to stay in the NL, he loves to hit.

If the Yankees somehow get Peavy, it could be a big mistake on their part.

A kid who grew up in Alabama and who has played his entire career in a small-market city now playing in New York? Could be dangerous. You have no idea how he might perform there.

Sometimes you have to roll the dice, especially when it comes to a talent like Peavy. It's not like Kennedy or Hughes are locks either.

IMO, that would be a waste on Atlanta's part. They'd likely have to give up Jurrjens and one of their outfield prospects for Peavy, who would be the only above average starter in that rotation. Atlanta's on a downward spiral, and trading their best young pitcher for Peavy would be a bad idea.

I never thought of Houston, to be honest. How much do they have to give though? They cleaned out a lot of their farm system in the Tejada trade.

San Diego pitcher Jake Peavy, the Cy Young Award winner currently being dangled in trade talks, initially indicated to the Padres that he would prefer a deal to one of five teams -- Atlanta, St. Louis, the Chicago Cubs, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros.

Those are the 5 teams Peavy is willing to go to. I agree with Mamba, Houston would be the favorite since he's willing to waive his no trade clause to play with Oswalt.

Houston Astros Top 20 Prospects for 2008

    Troy Patton, LHP, Grade B+

    J.R. Towles, C, Grade B (considering B+)

    Felipe Paulino, RHP, Grade B

Bud Norris, RHP, Grade B- (looks like a breakthrough candidate to me)

    Mike Costanzo, 3B, Grade B-

Michael Bourn, OF, Grade B- (seems like a cheat to list him but he doesn't have 150 at-bats)

Mitch Einertson, OF, Grade B- (borderline grade, could be C+)

Juan Gutierrez, RHP, Grade C+ (borderline, could flip to B-)

    Brad James, RHP, Grade C+

    Sam Gervacio, RHP, Grade C+

    Chad Reinkie, RHP, Grade C+

Jordan Parraz, OF, Grade C+ (I've always liked him for some reason)

    Josh Flores, OF Grade C+

    Eli Iorg, OF, Grade C+

    Collin DeLome, OF, Grade C+

    Paul Estrada, RHP, Grade C+

    Polin Trinidad, LHP, Grade C

    Max Sapp, C, Grade C

    Sergio Severino, LHP, Grade C

    Koby Clemens, 3B, Grade C

He wouldn't accept a trade to the Yankees, in the first place. He wants to bat, he wants to play in the NL. Peavy would do just fine in NY, though. He likes the big moments, he is a gamer, I don't think he'd be rattled.

Like I said, he'll try to push for Houston because him and Oswalt are best friends. He is also a southern boy, that's why I think Atlanta is a possibility.

Yankee's don't have the prospects? They have a top 5 farm system!

Peavy is only 27 years old. I'd trade Kennedy + Action Jackson (who I love), and maybe Melancon for him in a heart beat.

... I didn't say they had no prospects. My comment was on how you have to trade prospects as they aren't locks either. Look what Kennedy and Hughes did this year. No one thinks Santana won't have helped push this squad to the playoffs?

Hopefully the Dodgers don't trade for Peavy. I'll rather have big CC.

You'd rather have CC? He's a bust waiting to happen for the team that signs him to the absurd contract he'll be demanding.

I was talking to Jacoby, which is why I put it above the quote box.

They've had 1 full year, and you already want to sell on them?

    He will be.

Its not uncommon for guys to have a nice year or two before their contract is up, after an otherwise mediocre major league career. What makes you think that CC has the motivation (or the shoulder, lots of mileage on that arm) to keep this up once he signs a 7 year, $150 mil deal?

I was saying the Yankees should had traded them last year for Santana... and Peavy is in the same league, so don't feel any different in shipping the 2 out. In fact now, those 2 might not even bring Peavy to the Yankees.

I'm not really sure why the Padres want to trade Peavy. Especially for some of the rumored guys I am readying about. Like everyone, they need pitching, solid contract hitters who are willing to draw walks. Boopers won't play out well at Petco.

Selling on them now would be stupid. Their value is too low, and their potential is too high.

Cashman thought trading them would be stupid too.

He is now the owner of a dubious record. Highest salaried team to miss out on the playoffs.

I'm not saying they should trade the players for crap. I've said that trading them for Santana and Peavy or guys that type are no-brainers.

I've never read anywhere since Cashman has taken over the Yankees need to dump salary. I'm not sure why he feels he needs to bring on the rookies to fill spots, instead after going after superior talent. That's part of the benefit of being the Yankees GM, the cash the Steinbrenners are willing to splash about.
