Hawes might make more sense because we already have a low-post center and actually Robin can score a little bit down there too. Personally I think Channing Frye makes more sense than either, and plays about the same defense.

Neither of them excites me as much as the last couple of seasons' Phantom Free Agent Centers we chased - Hibbert or Splitter.

I'd take Hawes all day, every day. With his shooting ability, our offense would be unstoppable. And neither is a good defender-- eye test tells me Hawes is better.

    And he'd come cheaper.

Remember for Monroe, it's not just Monroe vs Hawes.

Hawes could be an outright sign without giving up players. For Monroe, we would have to trade on of our starters to make contracts work

Why do I get the impression that the Monroe "chase" is just to keep Paul Allen happy in the idea that the Blazers can pursue big names?

Even more true for Channing Frye.

Probably also true. Plus Channing Frye has (a) professed undying love for the City of Portland, and (b) isn't a fucking Republican. Not to be divisive or anything.

We don't HAVE to trade one of our starters to get $$ to work in trade

Monroe. Gives us a lot of flexibility to build the roster. We can keep him and have a great 1-2 punch at PF or we can trade LMA to further build out the roster and get essentially the same for less from Monroe.

Let's be realistic here though. You think Detroit will trade Monroe for a bunch of scrubs, especially on a team that had the worst bench in the nba last season?

Not necessarily "a bunch of scrubs", but perhaps two or three young players with potential (like CJ, Meyers, & Crabbe).

Agree with all of that. Even point B, which sorta irks me about Hawes -- because he's really vocal about his beliefs, but I can't really use that to gauge his bball prospects.

The other thing when you bring up Frye, though, is that he's 5 years older than the Hawes, and 6 years older than Monroe. This might not matter for our potential window, but still something to keep in mind.

I still don't see it, especially with so many other teams probably with better potential and cap space to save Detroit money.

Frye would probably be a better fit with the players on the team personality wise.

What we have to give up to entice Detroit and what we have to give up to match contracts are two different things though. You said we'd have to give a starter to match and that's not accurate.

I really don't understand this at all. Why would you at alll care about a players political beliefs. I mean, if our players were Green-Party Nation-of-Islam members who funded abortion clinics, it wouldn't make me root for them any less. Why are you liberals so intolerant? :dunno:

Okay, let me rephrase... We would most likely have to give up Batum.
