Article by Mitch Lawrence <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">For L.A., it's wait & Spree We've reached the halfway point of the NBA season, and the Lakers are still trying to find a way to crack the top eight of the Western Conference. Maybe Latrell Sprewell can help. At least that's what the Lakers are weighing as they look to add another scorer before the Feb.20 trading deadline. L.A. has had internal discussions about trading for the Knicks' small forward, even running his name by a certain center who had trouble getting his shot off against Yao Ming. No word on what it will take to get Sprewell, although the two Lakers mentioned, Derek Fisher and Samaki Walker, add up to only $4.5 million in salaries. That's about $8 mil shy of Sprewell, so more players would have to go to the Knicks. It's obvious that the Knicks aren't counting on L.A. to make a deal, because they are busy trying to find other teams who might be interested in Sprewell. "They've got maybe one player I like - Kurt Thomas - because his money matches his talent," said one Western Conference VP, citing the $5 mil Thomas makes this season, and the $5.4 mil for next. "But who wants Spree at his money?" The Knicks aren't alone in trying to make a deal. Philly is shopping Derrick Coleman, who might interest Pat Riley if he can get Larry Brown to take Brian Grant off his hands. The Heat badly needs cap space to be a player in this summer's free agent market, and would pick up room by adding Coleman, whose $9.5 million comes off the books in July. Orlando is dangling Mike Miller for a big man. The Pistons are in the market for a board man, even with Ben Wallace, because they're last in the league in rebounding. Having already changed coaches, the Hawks want to change their chemistry. So they're willing to part with Big Dog Robinson, Shareef Abdur-Rahim and/or Jason Terry in the right deal. The Bulls are exploring what they can get for JalenRose. </div>
they ain't gonna get rid of him or houstan till their contracts run out. actually, the only team they could posssibly trade to is the clipps, and they do NOT want him!
We don't need Spreewel,Spree is not that good deffensive player,we need someone like Corey Maggette or someone who will be our starting PG becuase Fish can't play deffence. Jason Terry would be nice
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "LaBballFan":</div><div class="quote_post">Jason Terry would be nice</div> yeah, fisher's D has been slipping as of late. i think a part of the reason is the Lakers are relying on their core players too much. we (i'm a laker fan, so i'm entitled to say "we") need to infuse new talent into the group. with a guy like jason terry, we'd force the other PGs to play some harder defense...run 'em down a little.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting "Alley-oop":</div><div class="quote_post">But Jason Terry plays horrible defence.</div> YOu can't say he plays horrible deffence,hr isn't the best deffensive player but he much bether then Fisher. Alos think of the offence. Hawks want to load their sallari so we could maybe pick up Terry and Henderson(becuase Henderson's contract is too big) Hawks wants ending contracts so we could give them Horry,Murray and I don't know maybe Deveon George becuase he is rising star

Spree would be great for the Lakers. He can help the scoring more. Spree has also been an energy guy and with Spree and Kobe thats pretty good.
he wouldnt fit in la, especially with kobe taking the ball everytime he can....it wouldnt fit...phil jackson would get choked..(hehe)
David Aldridge said he didn't think Spree would go to L.A. But even if he did, what players would work out? Perhaps...Fisher, Walker, and Fox? I would not give up Horry and plus him and Horry are best buddies so they would want to play on the same team. Then there's the mention of the L.A. Lakers wanting Horace Grant again...uhmm Walker or Grant, what ya'll think?
Sprewell? I just can't see Sprewell on the Lakers. But I'd rather have him over Pippen. I heard a rumor that Pippen was being considered.
