The Texas Stars excelled on special teams going 3-for-3 on the power play and also scoring a shorthanded goal in Saturday's 8-4 win against the Peoria Rivermen in Carver Arena. After the Rivermen took an early 2-0 lead, Texas scored seven of the next eight goals.

The Rivermen opened up the scoring in the game when Andrew Murray skated up to a deflected puck by the right circle and shot it past Richard Bachman, who was in goal for the first time this season for the Stars. Phil McRae and Evgeny Grachev assisted on Murray's goal.

Peoria doubled its lead just more than five minutes later when Grachev's wrist shot went past Bachman's glove. Murray and McRae were credited with assists. However, 10 seconds later, Austin Smith skated up the middle and found the back of the net to mark the first goal for the Stars. Patrik Nemeth and Taylor Vause assisted from the center ice faceoff on the goal.

The second period had a total of four goals, three of those by Texas. Alex Chiasson scored his 10th goal of the season on the powerplay as he deflected in a slapshot by Maxime Fortunus past Mike McKenna. Next, Matt Fraser scored his team-leading 19th goal of the year, and fifth against the Rivermen this season, on another powerplay. Tomas Vincour and Jamie Oleksiak earned assists on Fraser's goal.

Yet, the Rivermen tied the game at three when Chris Porter scored his first goal of the season in his first game. Porter smacked in a rebound from a shot by Cracknell as he swung it past Bachman. Texas broke the tie and took the lead for the rest of the game when Vincour scored a shorthanded breakaway goal after Tyler Sloan forced a turnover in neutral ice.

In a one-goal game heading into the third period, Texas scored three goals in the first five minutes. Justin Dowling scored his first goal of the season when he skated down the right side only 53 seconds in the frame. 1:23 later, Toby Petersen scored his fourth goal of the season. Next, Fortunus had his shot deflected off of two players and it went past Jake Allen, who replaced McKenna in net. The Stars scored their final goal of the night when Vincour slapped in a rebound.

Anthony Nigro scored the final goal of the game at 13:51 in the third period, shooting top shelf on Bachman as he went past four defenders on the unassisted goal.

Peoria went 0-for-3 on the power play as Texas scored on all three of their opportunities. The Rivermen outshot Texas 34-33 in the game.

The Rivermen complete their three-game weekend in as many days against the Houston Aeros on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. All games can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM or online through www.rivermen.net.
