OregonLive, as they do every year, has fans vote on who should stay or who should go. Overall, Blazer fans are notoriously homerific with their own players and want to keep almost everyone. This year is no different as so far only Meyers Leonard and Allan Crabbe have been voted off Blazer Island. I'm guessing here would be at least a little different but am interested to see if that is really the case. I'll leave off Dame, CJ and Nurkic as it seems likely those would be almost automatic 'Stays' except for possibly the "one of Dame/CJ has to go for this team to really be a contender" argument for which historically has some merit. But will leave that for other threads and focus on the rest of the roster. I'll also leave out Ezeli who Olshey has already said is gone. Since the Poll will only allow 10 choices, there can't be a 'Stay' or 'Go' option for each player so just select the ones you want to 'Go'. (There isn't room for Quartermann) How much of a retooling does this roster need?
Sure there are some but I think that most are more informed and more objective than most of the people who vote in the O-Live poll. Maybe not....that's what I'm curious to find out. In the O-Live poll almost every year, it is 'bring back almost the entire roster' no matter how unproductive the player or roster as a whole has been. There is usually always one whipping boy which this year seems to be Bella's owner.
I voted Crabbe and Leonard off the island, but no one on that list is untouchable. I would not hesitate to move any of them if it helped get us under the apron, or got us something of value in return. Vonleh, due to his age and how well he played next to Nurk, Connaughton, as a possible cheap Crabbe replacement and Harkless, because I think he has significant trade value are the only ones I wouldn't move just to dump salary. I'd also be fine keeping Napier, because he is relatively young and cheap. The rest I'm aggressively shopping to any and every team under the cap to try to move them without taking back much, or any, salary in return. BNM
What does "Go" mean, though? Willingness to simply waive them? Or if we select "Go" for Leonard, for example, does the game assume we find a good trade for him? In the second case, I'd vote a lot more "Go"s than the first case, but the second case seems a lot less realistic and seems to be hand-waving away all the actual work for "being the GM."
I'm OK with any of them going, but depending on who we get back...... Leonard is the only one who I wouldn't care if we got nothing back.
Since very rarely is a player simply 'waived' who has any type of contract at all, it is the 'find some type of trade' for them route.
Everyone except Harkless and Vonleh can go, as in be used to acquire other talent in any way necessary.
Being that none of these players are even close to being all-stars. Shouldn't there be 10 go's? I mean if you can get a better player in return for role player/bench players you do it.... But the key there is better player...
I posted in another thread that NO could trade Leonard and Davis for cap space. I think if he wants to, he could easily do the same with Aminu, too, freeing up a nice chunk of space under the LT to maneuver. That said, without Aminu, Vonleh becomes are de facto starting PF. I think it may well be time to, that he's ready to be the full-time PF. Our backup PF would be Harkless, barring a move to bring in a more appropriate backup. He played a lot of PF for us the past two seasons. Our starting lineup might be something like: Dame CJ Nurk Vonleh Turner With: Crabbe (SG/SF) Harkless (SF/PF) - NEED BACKUP C, preferably can play PF Napier (PG) (9 man rotation there) Plus draft picks, MLE signings, etc.
