#4 ranked Canadian boxing superstar Steve Molitor (28-0-0) puts his undefeated record and his IBF Super Bantamweight title on the line on the 21st of November against #3 ranked Panamanian Celestino "Pelenchin" Caballero (30-2-0) at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario. Molitor won the vacant IBF Super Bantamweight title against Michael Hunter in 2006 and has defended it successfully five times since, making Molitor one of the most active champions in boxing. His upcoming bout with Caballero will be his fourth fight in 2008. The Southpaw from Sarnia, Ontario, is coming off a tenth-round TKO over Argentinian Ceferino Dario Labarda (18-1) in August. Caballero has won 11 straight and has also successfully defended his WBA Super Bantamweight title five times. Caballero has a common opponent with Molitor, both having defeated Mexican fighter Ricardo Castillo. Molitor defeated Castillo on points while Caballero defefated him by disqualification when his cornerman entered the ring in the ninth round of their bout. Both fighters trail #2 ranked Rafael Marquez (37-4) and #1 ranked WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Israel Vasquez (43-4) in the division. Marquez and Vasquez recently completed a rubber match that saw Vasquez win a split decision following a sixth round TKO in their fight prior. Marquez won the first fight on a technical decision by the referee (with Vasquez unable to continue the fight). Molitor is currently making a push towards the top of the division and is likely to fight Marquez or Vasquez should he defeat the Panama native later this month.
Yep, and that's what sucks about boxing, is that one loss can totally derail a career. Its going to be some time before Molitor gets a shot at another top-5 super bantamweight.
