It reads to me like he's still a US citizen.

Article I read seemed to say he has been trying to give up his US citizenship for Russian for a while....calls himself a Mongol King and goes to marshall arts competitions with Putin...if he wanted dual citizenship he could just marry a local. Gerard Depardieu did the same thing awhile ago

I thought that once you become a citizen of another country, sans Canada, you forfeit your citizenship here?

In most countries you do...and I'd assume Russia is one of them unless you married a local and had a work permit...I can't have duel citizenship or become a Taiwanese citizen unless I give up my US citizenship in Taiwan....even then I have to live and work there for seven straight years and after that reside there more than half the year. my son could have duel citizenship if he served in the Taiwanese army for two years...if we had a daughter she couldn't have duel citizenship because of their medieval paternal laws....although they may now have changed with a female president

Just curious on peoples opinions. Why in your mind do you think Russia is so bad? (please leave the insults out, literally just want to learn about peoples opinions on the matter).

I must've been going on outdated (at best), or flat out wrong (most likely) information regarding dual citizenship.

I don't think Russians are bad. I think Steven Segal is a fucking idiot though, and him getting Russian citizenship has no bearing on my opinion of him.

I don't care much for Segal either way.

What would be more interesting to me is if Russia is denying any americans this status. Or is it only for high profile individuals.

He's not getting citizenship in order to live in some former USSR tenement building with working class Russians who, by and large, are about the same as other working class people across the globe. He's becoming a Russian citizen in a PR stunt by the Kremlin, as they've done with French actor Gerard Depardieu. Putin likes to hobnob with Western celebrities and trot them out to make the state seem less authoritarian/more glamorous but he's an ex-KGB thug and this is the best he can do. Seagal is a delusional lunatic who stopped getting validation stateside in the 90s and has been forced to make movies in the dredges of Eastern Europe. He's found someone to pump his tires overseas and probably adores the flattering attention he gets when he's with Putin and other Russian muckety mucks. He also has a long history of intimidating and abusing co-workers and staff so the 'friends with Putin' card is probably another big motivator for him.

I honestly loved Steven Seagal's movies as a kid. Not that they were any good, but they hit on every bad "Amurican" bad ass cliche in the book. It was like Chuck Norris combined with the Three Stooges. But punching Gene LeBell in the nuts is probably one of the dumbest things a human being can do. No wonder Gene made him shit his pants.
