How else does one understand some of the lack of adjustments he has made this season? Andre Drummond - the guy is beasting and they don't double-team him one time. Reggie Jackson - going nuts and he doesn't switch Aminu onto him. James Harden - blows up and Stotts waits till OT to put Aminu on him....where the Chief holds him to 1-4 shooting when matched up against him. Dirk - let's keep putting CJ/Dame on him and switching a big onto Ray Fat. Either Double Dirk (the Mavs did it to Dame) or hedge and then recover to Felton with the little guy and leave the defensive matchup better suited. If Fat beats you, so be it but don't let it be the HoF'er. I'm not begrudging a high Draft pick but some of these things are stuff of high school coaching. On a high note, GREAT effort from the bench.
They have actually played pretty well for most games and have had a lot of leads late. They just need to learn how to close and need another guy who can create shots for himself and others.
CJ was 3 for his first 20. Why couldn't Stotts at least have Aminu in for him on defense so at least Dirk is shooting over Aminu or Crabbe. CJ 8 for his last 36.
I swear we have switched on pick and rolls every single time we play Dirk and the Mavericks and he always has big nights against us. It's pretty baffling we continue to show our defensive hand over and over again and refuse to make any adjustments or even show them a different look.
I don't think Stotts is championship coach. He don't believe in a adjustment or he just don't know how to adjust in games. Plain and simple he is good assist coach but not really good as a head coach. Yea everyone here what's a high draft pick but there games we should have won by a good decision by this coach we would have prevail.
So you didn't see hot annoyed stotts looked everytime Nards/cj/lillard didn't fight through the pick and instead switched it? Man what was I watching.. The only thing he could have done imo is pull whoever kept switching in the 4th tonight. But you only got so many players. Or yes double down. But point is can only tell players to do something. can't do it for them...
This is precisely why I don't think Lillard and CJ are a good starting pair. Individually you might be able to compensate for one or the other's defensive deficiencies with offensive brilliance and hiding them on guys who can't score, but CJ looks like a bench scorer to me - like a non-annoying version of Jamal Crawford.
Part of coaching is getting players to do what you tell them to or you're not a very effective coach. I like Stotts but as someone else said, more of an assistant very much like I thought Nate was very much an assistant. Ask Husky fan about Jim Lambright was was an assistant on a co-National Championship team and how he was as a Head Coach? The Huskies have never recovered. I kind of feel that way about Helfrich at Oregon.
That seems short sighted. How else is the team going to get (potentially) significantly better? they aren't signing any free agents of note and their team is made up of 13 role players, CJ and Damian.
We drafted Walton. We drafted drexler. We drafted kersey and porter. We drafted sabonis. We drafted lillard. Why do you hate the draft? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't think we really wanted any guard switching on to Dirk. CJ was not the issue on D in OT. Stotts on the other hand might have coached his worst game ever. After the first switch in OT.......he should have made a move to get Leonard out. Sure he had a good 4th, but he was exhausted at that point and was not going to help offensively or defensively. What is it about NBA coaches where they all have to play the same players in OT that finished the 4th. This has always been a pet peeve of mine. Bring some energy into the fucking game with at least one player.
At least he's had a hot streak. I'm still waiting for fucking chandler parsons to wake up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
