"St. Louis Cardinals lefthanded reliever Brian Tallet, who hasn't pitched since Saturday, was on the list to pitch Thursday at Port St. Lucie, Fla., but he suffered a groin strain running before the game. Tallet was scratched from that game and he didn't even make the trip here for tonight's game with the Washington Nationals.

Manager Tony La Russa said Tallet, "depending on how it is tomorrow, may miss three, four, five days." The Cardinals are scheduled to open their season in six days with San Diego and, to that extent, La Russa said, "I did express concern.

"If he can't do anything for three or four days. . . what's the certainty factor that on Thursday, you can bring him into a game and he'll be ready? I think there's a decision there. But it would be helpful if he comes to the ball park tomorrow and he's fine," La Russa said."
