Ten Cate agrees Chelsea terms: Dutch press</p> AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AFP) - Ajax coach Henk Ten Cate has agreed to become a coach at Chelsea, Dutch press agency ANP quoted a source close to Ten Cate as saying on Friday. Public television network NOS had claimed on Thursday night, without quoting its sources, that a deal had been signed between the two parties. Ten Cate has been under pressure at Ajax after missing out on the Champions League group stages and then losing on away goals to Croatia's Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Cup on Thursday night, again missing out on the group stages. The Dutchman is believed to have agreed to work as a first team coach under the direction of team manager Avram Grant. Grant, whose official title remains director of football, took over the first team following last month's ousting of Jose Mourinho. The former Israeli coach had been widely seen as a short-term appointment but it now seems as if he may be at the helm for longer than expected as Chelsea move towards management by committee. Grant's position was bolstered on Wednesday night when Chelsea emerged from a trip to Valencia with a vital 2-1 win in the Champions League. Chelsea would not confirm or deny the reports in Thursday's press but a spokesman said: "Chelsea first team coach Avram Grant has made it publicly clear several times that he intends to strengthen his backroom team in addition to his assistant coach Steve Clarke. "One of the scenarios Avram is considering is a team containing a British assistant coach in Steve and a foreign assistant coach, a system the first team are already familiar with." Ten Cate is a former assistant to Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard and his time in Catalonia and with Ajax means he is ideally qualified to help Chelsea develop the more fluid, attacking style that their owner, Roman Abramovich, craves. Chelsea have also been strongly linked with a move to bring Russian national team coach Guus Hiddink to Stamford Bridge but they denied any truth in those rumours on Thursday.</p>
