Around the 15-20 min mark. We'll put in new sets. Emphasizing actions rather than sets. Be more effective in transition and semi-transition, and get a little more of those opportunities. Also spoke earlier about how he thought we were really poor in passing the ball last year and wants to add stuff to improve that. We've taken video and sets from around the league and Euro teams and we can see how to incorporate it with our personnel. Defense has improved as a result of continuity. Big question since I've been here has been the idea of creating turnovers. I don't think creating turnovers necessarily means you're a good defensive team, but it does lead to easier baskets on the other end. I don't know where to emphasize that-- i would like to create more turnovers and I think it will come more with experience and being at the right place at the right time, rather than trapping and pressing. --- paraphrasing. https://tunein.com/share/popout/t123294667/
I don't usually listen to courtside anymore after Rice was fired, but was desperate for Blazer content. Think this was a decent interview. Also some talk about the 3 on 3 tournament. Glad to hear Terry open to changes a bit.
Was that on courtside? honestly, it's been hard to listen to that show for a long long time. Back when Snapper and Pat Lafferty used to host it, and it was simulcast on TV, my brother and I would call in occasionally. We'd give them the topic of our question (i.e., will Caldwell Jones continue to start or will they start X instead") but once we were on the air we'd change to a totally unrelated question. It seemed to piss off Snapper a bit.
As a Blazer fan it's funny, because the meme of "we're going to run more" is right up there with "he has put on xx lbs of muscle over the summer." I don't believe any talk about changes to the offense until we actually see it.
Yes, It's a surprisingly candid interview. And some actual talk about sets and strategy resulting from rule changes on defense.
Haven’t watched Courtside since they started putting it on TV. Used to record it on cassette tape off the radio back in the day.
Terry: I do want to highlight Jusuf's impact on our defense. I think him challenging and blocking shots will help your defense no matter your opponent's strategy.
Courtside was great back before news was up to the second on the internet. I used to listen for rumors or breaking news. Sidenote - does it make anyone else feel super old that we were listening to those two little girls on the Volvo commercials back in the 90s, and now they're adults and they help run the dealership?
Nearly every coach in the league says the same every summer. We want to play faster, we want to take more shots. The only one in recent history who followed through was Terry's good friend Dwayne Casey last year. Toronto overhauled their offense and they won 59 games. Fizzled in the playoffs, but still. There was a tangible change.
Absolutely, but I'm used to it at this point. I started feeling old the first time I heard one of them talking about heading off to college.
I think that was largely because Duncan was slowing down and no longer the unquestioned focal point of the offense. Popp is good at tuning the system to his personnel. Stotts seems to be more in the mold of find and fit players to the system. I'm not confident we'll see much change.
Fair enough, but they didn’t seem to change the offense much. In fact it kind of seemed to get worse. I hope CJ does work on setting up his team mates this year.
