I'm looking at it. The servers are not showing any stress. Laggy typing is an indication that your computer or whatever is acting slow for some reason. I think it may well be something that needs to be tuned with the site. With a busy thread, a lot of alerts are generated. That might be triggering the browsers to deal with a lot of alert processing. That's my theory at this point.
I didn't change preferences, is it something that if I used 20 posts per page instead of 100 it'd be better?
My guess is that you might be in to something. I noticed the website seems to do a kind of live update where it fetches posts made since you have reloaded the thread. Perhaps a lot of memory could be allocated to having so many new posts on one page before reloading. Fwiw I did not experience any lag on Safari (IPad) with 50 posts per page selected.
I think it could be the twitter renderings in the thread. Those aren't done by xenforo, but by twitter itself. It's a technology that's been around a long time called IFrames. I see a lot of timers getting fired by the twitter javascript. If they're taking some time to run, the editor and scrolling and rendering and everything else would feel slower.
It doesn't seem to be related to super long threads. I opened one that's 30+ pages and I didn't notice any slowness.
I have no problems typing here or on any other thread but it was noticeable on the game thread. As I mentioned on the game thread, it seemed to stutter when panes appeared saying new post were available to view. It also sensed it happened twice when trying to send a post and again, the banner saying new posts available for viewing was there. It's not our computers. The old system you used did not have these issues and I used the same computer.
I see no indication that the servers are having any kind of slowness. I see 99% idle type measurements on them all. They're doing their job plenty fast. If you are experiencing a laggy feel when typing, then it's something running on your computer that's hogging the CPU. It might be the xenforo javascript in your browser. It might be a bunch of animated gifs on the page (animation takes CPU). If you have a sense of what it is, let me know. I am not seeing it here.
When it's inserting HTML in the middle of the page, it could cause a reflow (browser has to redraw a lot). There's two components to the site. There's a lot that goes on server-side, and there's code that runs client side. The editor itself is code that runs in your browser on your computer. What I'm saying is I don't see any indication there's issues with the server-side. I am also not seeing anything on my laptop. I'll watch next game thread and see if I can't experience it.
