so far this season we're 2-5 and just as I expected. We've got great pitching, great starting lineup, but no power. Isn't it sad Jose Lopez might be our clean up hitter? I speak for everyone when I say...WTF. We need to get a deal done for some power. We need to play Griffey to get his reps in. #5 slot is perfect for him at this point right now. We're facing the A's tonight with Rowland-Smith set to start.
So I've watched 5, froze from the nosebleeds on Opening Day, and I'm still excited about this season? Why? Pitching's holding together until Lee (and Bedard?!?!) get back. There's a big difference between your 4-5 guys being Vargas and Fister (who pitched one heckuva game last night) and your 4-5 guys being Rowland-Smith and Snell. That's maybe 15 wins on their own (if you figure 60 starts combined for the 4-5 pitchers, and the difference between pitching at, say, a .600 clip and a .350 clip)--notwithstanding Lee and Bedard being 2-3 vs. Snell and RRS. Bullpen should be fresher, too...so that instead of having Jesus Colome back there in the 'pen we might have, say, a bat that can hit a ball out of the infield sitting on the bench.
Also: Love what Bradley's bringing to the table (sub-.120 BA forgotten for the moment). He's been smoking the ball, and it's finally starting to drop and get over the fence. More worried about Ichiro striking out and popping out...I can't remember the last ground ball he legged out. Love the emphasis on bunting that almost everyone's shown so far. Still on the ragged end of reckless with runners in motion, but the A's have an organizational bent on "keeping the runners on the bag"--coupled with the .310 OBP by our top 2 guys in the order there aren't tons of opps to run/
I love how this team has somehow managed to stay afloat despite lacking in the power department. Oh, and without Cliff Lee.
I still can't believe Cliff Lee got a 5 game suspension from Spring Training.... Franklin Guiterrez has been lights out so far this year. Hopefully Milton Bradley can keep his head straight and move back into that cleanup role. This team is really lacking in power though.
well we didnt sweep the tigers but at least we're winning series..hopefully we sweep the awful orioles tho
I read for the Orioles Brian Matusz 2-0...rest of the pitchers are a combined 0-11 Good thing Matusz faced A's yesterday, hopefully we can get some wins in non-Felix starts in this series.
guti has been amazing. he should win a few gold gloves too....we still need help on offense badly IMO.. i dont want to wait till the trade deadline to make a trade...was there any news about lee's appeal to lower the 5 game suspension?
I wish Morrow the best of luck in Toronto. I hope that team makes the playoffs and knocks off one of the big 2.
him and felix were my favorite players last year. i know its early but i think tampa knocked off boston this year
