I'm not a Pistons fan and don't keep track of them at all. However, I've noticed that they've been losing.... a lot: 2-8 in their last 10 3-11 in their last 14 Last night they lost by 31 to the Jazz. Reggie Jackson was out, though. They made the trade to get them into the playoffs. They're now 5.5 games behind the Heat who are in 8th. 538 says they have <1% chance to make the playoffs. Griffin salary: $30 mil this year, $32 mil next, and goes up from there through 21-22. Drummond salary: $24 mil this year, and goes up until 20-21 where he will earn $29 mil. Jackson salary: $16 mil this year, then $17 mil, then $18 mil. They gutted their team to get Grifin, and it has not paid off. Stan VG was under a lot of pressure going into this season. I'd be surprised if he isn't canned in the offseason. Too bad, I have a lot of respect for him, but the Griffin trade was franchise killing for them.
I wouldn't completely write them off over the next several years. Yes, this year is gone, but Griffin isn't a bad player and maybe just needs more time to bake.
by 20 in the recent post-Griffin hysteria. Now they've shown their true colors. I would be very frustrated if I were a Pistons fan. I am very happy to be a Blazers fan.
They don't have a decent guard. The Pistons need a good point guard and maybe then their bigs would actually be productive.
I don't think BG & AD are as talented as Boogie & AD. But lots of people wrote off the Boogie + AD lineup. They were playing pretty well together before Boogie went down. I don't think there is really any reason why BG + AD couldn't work in the East next year for at least 5-8 seed.
Proof again why being the coach and GM is a horrible idea. Griffin and Drummond could possibly work but SVG is not going to work wonders getting talent to fill the rest of the roster. A team simply cannot pay that much to bigs without being able to find quality talent on the cheap.
Sooooo freakin glad we didn't make a play for Blake. That salary along with his injuries could have set us back for years.
It does not surprise me. I've said it about two or three times already but gutting your roster to grab Griffin was a stupid decision. They basically took the same route Pelicans had last season with the acquisition of Cousins, i.e. tried to counter the small ball with two elite big men, only got a worse player who was a worse fit for them for a much higher price and coupled him with a worse player and a much worse supporting cast. While it actually worked fine for Pelicans and I think they would have become very competitive in the playoffs if it wasn't for Boogie's injury, it was calling for a disaster in Detroit. Basketball has evolved and you cannot possibly expect a line up of two bigs and three back up quality guards and wings to compete. Worst of all they are stuck with Griffin because his contract can't be absorbed by anyone else.
His salary alone made the question a non-starter as far as I'm concerned. Then there is his injury history, and his doucheyness, and yeah, just no. WTF were the Pistons thinking?
