Cascadia clash has Timbers seeing Red

The Portland Timbers will debut their secondary, “Rose City” red kits this Saturday, when they face Seattle Sounders FC on the road at Qwest Field live on ESPN2. Kickoff between the Cascadia rivals is set for 8 p.m. (PT). Fans can participate online with this historic rivalry week by sharing their stories, photos, travel tales, and rivalry chatter with the Twitter hashtag #rosecity.

The “Rose City” jersey features a split design of two shades of red, separated by “Rose City” thorns repeated down the middle, and Alaska Airlines script across the chest. Highlights of the jersey include “Rose City” verbiage on the back of the neck and the Rose City logo prominently displayed opposite the team’s primary crest on the front of the jersey

I believe Seattle is the only team they'll wear this against.

The Rose City Red kits are technically not third kits, but the Timbers have been wearing their third kits in exhibitions the last few years. It'd be weird if they only wore them against Seattle.

They don't technically have a 3rd kit right now. You aren't allowed to have a 3rd kit in MLS until your second season. The kits that were worn during the pre-season were just the practice jerseys. But I know what you are saying about previous seasons.

They'll only have to wear them against Seattle since they're the other green team in MLS. I think they can wear it whenever they want, but that's the only time they have to.

I know the rule, but the Rose City Red kits seem more like a third kit to me. The Timbers had Rose City Red 3rd kits a few years ago and just couldn't resist bringing them back for the MLS launch. I'm curious what the actual third kits will look like next season. Do they go with a white 3rd jersey next year? That would be kind of boring wouldn't it? I'm guessing it'll be yellow. Some think Paulson thought seriously about calling team Rose City FC.

Yellow would make sense, but I still prefer the red. Also, there's really no need for a third kit if you stick with green and red as the only time you'll need a change kit is for the Sounders. MLS is way too blue.

Yellow methinks as well Baracuda. It fits with burying me in Timbers Green and Timbers Gold.

White is boring but it fits. Dang it!

I would like a more goldish yellow as to a straight yellow or the neon "moss" color that is on the jersey.

Too bad (not really) that the timbers kits don't have collars.

I like the white over the yellow, easily.
