Hallmark of honest journalism, when a piece takes you to a place you didn't expect it to, and you let it take you there anyway without any preconceptions getting in the way.
I don’t think that is actually the hallmark of honest journalism. Is a piece factual, accurate, interesting, and well-written? That’s the hallmark. Often a piece goes exactly where you thought it would, oh sure some words and sentances may surprise you, but it is no less “honest journalism” when you write what you planned to write. Now, a cop who discovers that his suspect is innocent, that kind of surprise is the hallmark of an honest investigation. But I don’t thing writing a blog falls under that umbrella.
I didn't say it was the hallmark. Articles are important. In the absence of a definite article, an indefinite one should be assumed.
