The Flyweight Rankings as of last Monday: C - Johnson 1 - Joe Benavidez 2 - Henry Cejudo 3 - Jussier Formiga 4 - Ian McCall 5 - Kyoji Horiguchi 6 - John Moraga 7 - Zach Makovsky 8 - Wilson Reis 9 - Dustin Ortiz 10 - Ali Bagautinov NR - John Dodson NR - Chris Cariaso The guys he hasn't fought are either coming off of losses or have mixed results in the division and are not close to title contention. Formiga, ranked third, has lost to both guys ahead of him, for example. You may have heard the UFC is inviting flyweights to try out for the next season of TUF. Apparently they axed that idea. Barring some top level bantamweight dropping down to fight him, DJ has scorched the division and should probably move up in weight. He's going to stagnate if he starts fighting trumped-up challengers.
I don't like his chances against Cruz but I agree; what else is there for him to do? I don't think he will vacate. I think he is comfy where he's at. Otherwise he wouldn't be asking for retirement money to fight Cruz. But Cejudo was the last guy. They are going to have to railroad guys into title contention. Lambs to the slaughter.
Makes sense. Get the record first, then try to get that 2nd belt to put a stamp on your career and claim of goat.
If he does get the record I think that'll be it. Hopefully he's made enough money by then and built up his Twitch channel to the point where he can walk away.
