Portland partner up with Oregon-based manufacturing company

PORTLAND, Ore. – When the Portland Timbers open up their home for the first time in their inaugural MLS season on April 14 against the Chicago Fire, they will do on the pitch of a freshly renamed stadium.

At a ceremony on Monday in the concourse of Portland’s historic downtown stadium, team owner Merritt Paulson announced a new naming rights deal that effectively changes the name of PGE Park to JELD-WEN Field.

Not a fan of the new name. The stadium is, and will always be Civic Stadium (Multnomah Stadium was before my time) to me.

I liked PGE Park myself, thought it had a nice ring to it and had Portland in the name.

Ahh well, Jeld-Wen is a staple of Oregon. Hopefully it will grow on me, as I'll be there plenty!

will take some getting used to definitely. Jeld Wen Park would have sounded better IMO.. but hey if they are throwing 1.5 mill a year to making the Timbers financially stable they can call it what they want :)

Apparently locals/fans are calling it "the House of Pane." Or at least that's what Ives tweeted.

I heard the Nike name alot... but I dont think it could fly with the MLS having their long Adidas deal.

Nike could have stepped up a long time ago to support MLS, but they chose not too. I'm happy they bank roll Ducks INC though :)
