“We are thrilled to welcome one of the world’s most prestigious clubs to Portland,” said Timbers head coach and general manager Gavin Wilkinson. “Boca Juniors carries an unparalleled tradition of success and history. They have produced some of the best players to play the game and regularly feature world-caliber players. This will be an incredible game for our fans.”

They have won 23 national championships in the Primera División de Argentina, with the most recent coming in 2008. Boca Juniors has risen to prominence on the international front, claiming 18 international championships, including three FIFA Club World Cup and six Copa Libertadores titles. The club’s record-number of international accomplishments is a feat shared only with Italy’s AC Milan.

Boca Juniors’ roster includes Argentina National Team members and expected 2010 FIFA World Cup participants in midfielder Juan Román Riquelme and forward Martín Palermo. Its roster also includes several national team pool players, including midfielders Sebastián Battaglia, Nicolás Gaitán and Jesus Méndez and defender Fabián Monzón.

Founded in 1905, Boca Juniors is based in the city of Buenos Aires and is named after the local neighborhood La Boca. The club plays its home matches at Alberto J. Armando Stadium, better known as “La Bombonera,” which has become one of the most intimidating venues in Argentina.

The Boca Juniors USA Tour is being organized by the Professional Soccer Network. The Los Angeles-based PSN is a sports management company that specializes in producing soccer matches with National Teams and professional soccer clubs in 20 countries. They also manage talent in the sports agency side of their business, with players in MLS and across the globe.
