The Portland Trail Blazers were active in the trade market this summer, adding both Kent Bazemore and Hassan Whiteside through deals with other teams. Each player is on a hefty, expiring contract that could serve as a catalyst for a bigger deal. Scott Rafferty of NBA Canada looked at the possibility of adding Andre Iguodala, who’s on leave from the Memphis Grizzlies, with Bazemore as the focal point: Bazemore alone won’t get it done, but the Blazers have some interesting young players - Mario Hezonja, Skal Labissiere, Anfernee Simons and Zach Collins to name a few - and draft picks that they could include to sweeten the deal. There would be some risk in flipping Bazemore for Iguodala, though. Not only is Bazemore younger and less injury prone, he’s a better 3-point shooter. It might ultimately come down to how confident the Blazers are that they can compete this season - some of which will undoubtedly hinge on how Jusuf Nurkic looks when he returns from his injury - because Bazemore would help them more in the regular season, whereas Iguodala would help them more in the playoffs. What do you think of a deal for Iguodala that involves Bazemore and additional sweetener? Let us know in the comments.
No need to read any further. I wouldn't pay more that Bazemore for Iguodala... especially when he will most likely be available for the minimum after Memphis cuts him (post trade deadline).
The issue with that is Iguodala will have a choice of teams if that happens. There's no way he's choosing Portland.
THIS IS NOT A RUMOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Iggy should end his career in Philly where it all started for him...he'd be a great mentor for that young team. They'll retire his jersey one day anyway.
Iguodala is the type of player you need in the playoffs but I wouldn’t necessarily give up anyone for him. Best hope is he comes on a buyout but I doubt he’d pass up playing with Lebron in LA.
An article i read is talking about him reaching a deal with Memphis to sit out training camp while he waits for a buyout or trade to a team that can buy him out. When that happens they expect him to go back to the Warriors. But that is a Bay Area story and writer. I just can't see him seriously considering coming to the Blazers at this point? I also wouldn't move Bazemore to get him. Waiting for him to be bought out would put him in the market for a bunch of other teams and it would be less likely he would choose the Blazers at that point.
The concept of 'has-been' leadership (Iggy and Pau come to mind) kind of reminds me of this article.... https://clutchpoints.com/bulls-news-scottie-pippen-regrets-not-ending-career-with-a-veteran-team/
