Washington (CNN)Donald Trump's campaign says he'll pick up the endorsement of a coalition of 100 African-American pastors and evangelical leaders Monday in New York City.

The real estate mogul and Republican presidential front-runner's campaign announced the endorsement -- which it said will come after a private meeting at Trump Tower -- on Wednesday.

Trump's campaign scheduled an endorsement event for 1 p.m. ET. It has not released the names of the religious leaders who are set to endorse Trump.

The endorsements would come a little more than a week after Trump stirred racial controversies.

He cheered a crowd's physical ejection of a Black Lives Matter protester from an event in Birmingham, Alabama, saying the man might have deserved to be "roughed up."

And Trump retweeted an image of fake, racially-charged crime figures that attribute far more black-on-white murders to blacks than FBI crime statistics show actually happen.

Trump also found himself in a religion-driven controversy after he claimed several times that thousands of American Muslims in New Jersey cheered the 9/11 attacks. There's no evidence that actually took place. Still, Trump has said hundreds of Twitter followers have tweeted at him, saying they saw the same thing.

If there are really 100 right-wing blacks in leadership positions over other blacks, the 99% of blacks need to get that list of names and drive the 100 out of power. In each church, get a group to replace the pastor. The process should begin as soon as Trump publicizes his list.

But Barfo's post shows that the number is a lot less than 100. Still, blacks should push the few out of their leadership positions. It's easy when Trump names names.

According to a Trump insider who was not authorized to speak on the record, a group of about 40 pastors was prepared to endorse the candidate following Monday’s meeting but the final number of invitees swelled to over 100. Faith leaders who joined after the initial group were less committed to endorsing Trump – and some of those invited actually opposed his candidacy. Finding themselves under fire within black religious circles, several came out to say they do not plan to endorse him.

Others signaled privately that they will not make a final decision before meeting with the candidate. “They have an obligation to their people to meet with him first so they can have the same firsthand relationship with his views,” said the Trump insider. “We still firmly believe that this is history in the making. I don’t believe there’s ever been a Republican candidate or president who’s sat down with 100 black evangelical preachers.”

The campaign originally announced the press conference in a press release on Wednesday, writing, “Trump will be joined by a coalition of 100 African American Evangelical pastors and religious leaders who will endorse the GOP front-runner after a private meeting at Trump Tower.”

Trump campaign forced to cancel press conference with black pastors after they shred him in the press

A scheduled private meeting with black pastors was supposed to be followed by a press conference where, according to the campaign: “A coalition of 100 African American Evangelical pastors and religious leaders will endorse the GOP front runner after a private meeting at Trump Tower.”

This did not sit well with prospective attendees, many of whom claim that they had no intention of endorsing Trump, with one calling him “an insult and embarrassment. But he represents the country we have become.”

Bishop Paul S. Morton of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship tweeted on Friday that he had refused to meet with Trump, saying that the candidate lacks “respect for people.”

“I was asked 2 meet with Mr Trump too but I refused because until he learns how to respect people you can’t represent me thru my endorsement,” Morton wrote.

Faced with a potential disaster on their hands should the attending pastors address the reporters in front of the candidate, the Trump campaign called off the press conference and stated the meeting would remain private — no press allowed.
