https://www.yahoo.com/news/postal-most-american-thing-weve-155246124.html Trump wants the USPS to quadruple its shipping prices. He wants to do this to stop mail in voting so he can win re-election. Last week Trump removed a life long postal worker as post master general and named Louis Dejoy, a major republican party donor with no experience in the postal service as the new post master general. Trump disgusts me
this will bite him in the ass if it comes to be. many small businesses and and even more e-commerce businesses will suffer a decided drop in sales IMHO when consumers are forced to pay more to receive goods. many if not most ebay stores, poshmark and etsy sellers have come to rely on the postal service to distribute products after sales at a price point palatable to their clients. when the cost of shipping is more than the product it will likely make many consumers pause before clicking that last time before completing their order. trickle down for impacts on paypal need to be understood also. with the economy already in the tank our economic recovery is likely to be much slower without these sales and tax revenues. all in an attempt to punish bezos at amazon and even more for press from washington post. stable genius.
Understand the concerns but UPS, FedX & DHL are also used mostly for shipping. The USPS is good for smaller packages and is very inexpensive. The down side for a business using the USPS you are not able to track packages and many get a % get lost. If a government agency cant cover the cost of being in business something has to change, imo. Either increase budget through more taxes, cuts some reductant operating & logistic cost or use private sector service.
You know who will suffer most from USPS service disruption? https://www.vox.com/identities/2020...hutting-down-rural-america-native-communities This is the place where the GOP has a stronghold on the electoral collage. This will be the nail in the coffin of his administration. The man can't see a government agency working well and liked by the citizenry... https://about.usps.com/newsroom/nat...n-as-americans-favorite-government-agency.htm
The USPS can easily cover it's requirement if there was no un-competitive retirement fund requirement on it that Congress made it cover since the 80s.
Many seniors and disabled people get medication via post office. Amazon will just up their prices. Consumers will pay.
try deal with this where you have no other reasonable options. an item in the flat rate box from USPS in hawaii is a life line. all of rural america can relate. here ups and fedex already hand off many of there deliveries to the USPS too.
right. the new tarriffs, " and --------- will pay for it". insert what ever country or group neccessary, here try Amazon.
Nice. I don't give a fuck about the price of stamps. Post office sucks anyway, UPS better. 50 cents to mail a letter seems too cheap. Pay bills electronically, yo.
Better for what? I sell a lot of laptops and parts on ebay and have never used UPS due to cost and length of time for delivery.
It's a faster process for me. The post office employees suck donkey balls. UPS seems faster, I don't send stuff in bulk though For work, we use FedEx. Its pricier but usually easier.
The VA mails meds to millions of vets and disabled seniors who have to rely on Ride Source to get to a pharmacy....not a good demographic to piss off at election time
I realize that Hawaii logistics are certainly different. That freight cost are very high there, and you use barges for inter island shipping of larger pieces. I had a distributer in Aiea and he would never use a suggested retail or list price on anything because of the freight factor. He was able to pad his profit margins on parts and pass it on as freight cost.
Obviously a lot depends on what you are shipping and where to. I have used their flat rate services and it's nice as I can ship to Florida for the same cost I can ship to California so I can offer my item at a set cost to anyone in the continental USA.
need context in this regard. is understood that the first families have a strangle hold on many things, not just shipping. Aiea is pretty near as urban as can be, and nearly everything uses oahu as centralized reception of goods before interisland distribution. it isn't only the interisland barging that account for the added costs from there to the rest of the counties. it is unimagianable without the USPS. try flying in goods. there is also the Jones Act that adds costs as a protectionism to the big cargo carriers from the mainland(goods can only be delivered on US flagged merchantmen). because of it we worry a great deal about the time lag necessary to ship emergency supplies as in Puerto Rico's slow delivery of emergency goods after the hurricane.
In Oregon, there is no need to supply postage for the primary. I presume it will be the same in November. The same should be true for every state. Maybe after next January the new Congress and the new President can get this done.
Ive always been a user of the Post Office for smaller shipments and the were easy. I only had a couple times where there was a lost shipment and the post office wasn't ale to track. The 2006 pension law they passed where they have fund 50 years of pension is the cost factor thats hurt them. As a consumer Im strong advocate of superb service andIm wiling to pay more with in reason, for a good product or service. I like going to a restaurant where the food was good but the service sucked. There is enough waste in many government programs where they could cut and beef up the post office.
The post office cannot be run like a private enterprise. Their rates are the same for every part of the country. They give preference to service connected disabled Veterans. They have their own very qualified postal inspectors that will investigate any wrongdoing involving USPS mail. It was that branch of the post office that investigated both mail bombs and anthrax.
She retired last year, but he asked her to stay on until a replacement was available. She completely folded to Amazon, FedEx, UPD etc... and closed a huge portion of rural service offices resulting in devastating consequences to rural communities and an historic financial drain on the USPS. She put the USPS $18 billion further into debt in roughly 3 years. Easily the absolute worst of all 74 Postmasters who have served. In December 2010, she was named chief operating officer and executive vice president of the USPS. In 2012, she began shutting down mail-handling facilities because of budget cuts brought on by less mail and congressionally-mandated pension-funding rules. On November 14, 2014, the U.S. Postal Service's Board of Governors voted to appoint Brennan postmaster general to succeed Patrick R. Donahoe, who was set to retire in February 2015. In May 2018, the Washington Post reported that President Trump personally pushed her to double the rates on Amazon and other firms.[6] On October 16, 2019, Brennan announced in a statement that she would be retiring fulfilling her five-year commitment as Postmaster General.[7] However, on January 6, her retirement was delayed until a successor could be found. Her replacement is a well-known entrepreneur and highly successful businessman and a leader in global logistics supply chain management, with the necessary qualities she lacked. Louis DeJoy is an accomplished American entrepreneur, business executive, real estate investor, community leader, philanthropist, and political fundraiser, with more than 35 years’ experience with both private and public companies. For more than 30 years, Louis served as chairman and CEO of New Breed Logistics, Inc. (1983-2014), a leading U.S. provider of highly engineered, technology-driven, contract logistics solutions. In 2014, Louis merged New Breed Logistics with XPO Logistics, Inc. (NYSE: XPO). He then served as chief executive officer of XPO Logistics’ supply chain business in the Americas. In December 2015, Louis retired as CEO and was appointed to a strategic role on XPO Logistics’ board of directors. In May 2018, Louis retired from the XPO Logistics’ board of directors. Currently Louis is president of LDJ Global Strategies, LLC, a strategic real estate investment and consulting company based in Greensboro, North Carolina. He also holds several board positions and serves a number of civic, business, institutional, and educational organizations. DeJoy is a member of the Board of Trustees for Elon University, where he serves as chair of the Business and Finance Committee and is a member of the Investment Committee. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the PGA Wyndham Championship, The Fund for American Studies in Washington, DC, and the Piedmont Triad Partnership. On March 1, 2017, Louis was honored with the Elon University Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership, which is bestowed upon individuals who possess integrity, innovation and creativity, a passion for lifelong learning, and a commitment to building a dynamic community. Louis was inducted into Junior Achievement of the Triad’s Business Leaders Hall of Fame on January 23, 2018. Hall of Fame inductees are visionary businessmen and women who are recognized and honored for shaping the Piedmont Triad North Carolina economic landscape. DeJoy received his Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting from Stetson University, and began his career as a Certified Public Accountant in Florida. He resides in Greensboro, NC with his wife, Dr. Aldona Wos, and their children.
