Then I guess it was suicide. Too bad he didn't get help in time. The hotline is always open.

Looks like a publicity stunt. "Quit with a heavy heart" due to being under such unfair attack and then "courageously re-enter the race" 24 hours later because we gotta stand up to the bullies.

It certainly should get Republicans excited about him, which is always helpful in a Democratic primary. Let's see if it gets Democrats excited about him.

After watching the video, he’s just serving out his term. He’s not running for re-election

Ah okay. Then the publicity stunt should work out fine for him. A few minutes of fame he wouldn't have had otherwise.

On April 14, 2020, Jones became the first state elected Democratic official in Georgia to endorse President Donald Trump's re-election bid. Jones said he has no plans to switch political parties and gave his reasons for the endorsement by saying "It’s very simple to me. President Trump’s handling of the economy, his support for historically black colleges and his criminal justice initiatives drew me to endorse his campaign." Due to backlash from his endorsement of Trump, he announced his resignation on April 22, 2020. On April 23rd, 2020, Jones announced on his Twitter account that he was in fact not resigning.

He said "he's leaving the plantation" back when he was "quitting." That's a black conservative term meaning "Democrats are the REAL racists, pretending to help black people but keeping them subservient." So, if that's how he feels about the Democratic party, one wonders why he's a member of the party...

During his 2008 Senate campaign, Jones described himself as a "conservative Democrat" who favors "tough immigration laws and fiscal responsibility" as well as "supporter of gun rights and a staunch environmental advocate".[12] During his 2008 campaign, he stated that he opposed same-sex marriage.[13] OnTheIssues.org rated Jones as a "Moderate Libertarian Conservative".[14] Jones stated that he voted for George W. Bush in 2004, and supported Barack Obama in 2008.[15] Jones donated $2,464 in two separate donations to the Georgia Republican Party in 2001.[16][17] In a 2014 press release, Jones characterized himself as an "advocate for limited government, security and protections for all citizens, balanced budgeting, ethical and efficient elections, [and] job creation".[18] Jones was the only Democratic cosponsor of the bill to legalize the concealed carry of firearms on Georgia's college campuses. I have never really understood why Bernie was part of the Democratic party, or why Trump was part of the Republican Party. I think it all boils down to most of them just pick one of the two.

The guys just a dumb ass then.

The economy was spiraling into a recession before this pandemic came about.

His support for black colleges? Hahaha what a cop out.

He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing is what he is.

The point is, neither Sanders nor Trump is fundamentally opposed to the parties they're in or running for the nomination of (the same can't be said for some of their supporters, of course). Jones, from his own rhetoric, clearly is directly opposed to the party he's in.

So I’m wondering what makes him a Democrat?

Sanders has complained so much about the Democratic and Democratic establishment though. Which I suppose doesn't mean he's opposed to the party itself, but if you're opposed to the people in charge of your party, you're kind of opposed to the party I guess(?). I think Sanders literally had commercials saying let's take down the democratic establishment. Which part of his platform is that the Democratic party is corrupt... Anyways not to make this all about Sanders, just my point is that I think politicians kind of choose which side they think they're either closer aligned too or gives them a better chance to win elections.

Well, yeah, that's basically what I was getting at. I don't think Jones is very closely aligned with the Democrats, he seems much more aligned with the Republicans (a thing you can't really say about Sanders, even if Sanders has his issues with the Democratic party). I suspect he thinks it's easier to win, as a black man in a Southern state, as a Democrat.
